how do you make a screenshot of Gimp with mousepointers ?

whenever i make a screenshot for a tutorial, the mousepointer (whatever the shape it currently is) disappears from the final image like a ghost

most of the time this is no problem and convenient, but last time i wanted to create a new tut, the Paths Tool pointer would have added some useful information to the screenshot

Are you using Gimp Create Screenshot?
If so are you selecting, Take a screenshot of the entire screen and the Include mouse pointer option?

I use WinSnap. There's an option to keep the pointer in the shot.

Odin when I use that one, I set it for 5 secs then by the time I drop down the tab, it doesn't snap. I have better luck with the mate [take screenshot], works the same way, but it gives me time to pull down the tab and show the pointer.

tried googling around, and so far, they all suggest a 3rd party app.

2.3.4. Screenshot
File | Create | Screenshot...

I think WinSnap is a Commander plugin isn't it?
If a computer is setup to use a screenshot program other than the default system utility it might be overriding Gimp | Create | Screenshot.

The screenshot part of Gimp is very system-dependent, you don't get the same things in Windows/Linux/OSX (and maybe there are some variations between build sources).

On Linux you get the pointer included (on its own layer, so you can even move it afterwards...) if you use the "Entire screen" option. In this case, I use a little delay, click the snap and move the mouse to where I want and wait until the snapshot is taken.

just for fun.
If you don't want to install a 3rd party, and manually do it, you can google "convert .cur to .png" and convert C:\Windows\Cursors files to png files. and open as .png as layer and move it around.

When I was using Windows I liked, FastStone Capture (Last Free Version).
I can't remember if Faststone captures the mouse pointer but another one I liked Greenshot does.

I'll second faststone.

After capturing screenshot, click the "d" key to launch the draw board where you can annotate, add text, arrows, boxes all with variable opacity and dropshadows. You can also highlight and blackout/blur content. These mods are editable until you leave the draw board when they get merged down into the image.
