The weather here has been wild. This is my attempt at a storm through a window. All we need is thunder.

The image takes a while to load.

That's a very nice animation indeed, Oregonian. I like the varying shapes of the lightning strokes and how they cause full-screen flashes. :)

Thanks Griatch. I'm considering adding 10 more just dark layers to make the time between the flashes a little longer. It seems just a little too repetitive too soon. I intend to play with it some more.

Someone over in Gimp Talk asked about rain and thunder and lightning through a window. I was going to write a tutorial but became overwhelmed with all the steps I did to make this image. A tutorial would be VERY long.

Pretty cool outcome O!
I love it. It looks like something that should be going on outside Griatch's trolls house. :)

I bet it would be highly appreciated though. :)

@ Rod - Thank you

@Griatch - This is a list of what would be needed and/or explained how to use. Plus everything I can't think of right now.

  • Lightning brushes
  • Combine Background script
  • Rain script
  • Layer Settings script
  • How to clean out the windows in the image (I used paths)
  • Solid Noise
  • Brightness & Contrast on some of the rain images and window image.

Here you go O complete with sound effects. :)
Made it much smaller though.Click the top of the text to start sound and click the bottom text to stop sound.
You can right click and zoom in and move the window around also.
swf Video format : swf

The sound is set to loop 1 time so if you want to hear it again you'll have to press the text to start it again.

A much better version here

Whoa! That is way cool, Rod. I resized it for you in your post. I used Image and made it 725 x 650.

The rain is a bit thick for my taste, but overall very nice. Decor light changing with lightning is the realistic touch.

Thanks ofnuts. The rain here is a bit thick for my taste, too. It's absolutely pouring here.

@ Rod - That icon Image seems to work better for swf vids including YouTube videos.
