My problem is I'm trying to print an image 34" x 34" which is defined as that in IMAGE -> PRINT SIZE. But when printing (on the plotter) FILE -> PRINT. It gets compressed to 8" x 8". In the FILE -> PRINT dialog window there is a tab 'Image Settings'. In there it shows the size as 8x8 and cannot, except by suppressing margins can I make the size any larger....all the way to 8.5" x 8.5"
I have changed my default printer to be the plotter and then opened GIMP w/image. Still doesn't work. It does allow for FILE -> PAGE SETUP to allow me to change the paper size to Arch E (36" x 48") but this still does not allow the IMAGE SETTINGS to be made greater than 8x8.
I installed a newer version of GIMP 2.8.10 from 2.8.8, but that made no difference.
Ideas?

If you have a Windows 7 driver for the plotter you might try exporting it with the right extension for the plotter driver.
The Gimp print program is very poor imo.

Aren't plotters primarily intended for line drawings?
If so is that what you want to print?
Gerard.

Under print size what is the current PPI?
To design an image in Gimp 34" x 34" that will be capable of printing, your PPI will need to be at the absolute minimum 150 PPI. It should be 250 -300 PPI for quality printing. An initial image at 150 PPI will be around 250 MB. If the image is not all graphics or a picture I would suggest designing in Scribus. It has a nice Pre-flight utility as well.

By PPI I think that is the size (IMAGE -> SCALE IMAGE) is 2800 x 2800, was bigger.

This plotter is an HP T1200 which is used to print maps. Full color maps. I don't think it's the plotter per se, it might be the driver and I'll try some more tweaks.

Keep those ideas coming!
