Thanks Rod. I didn't realize that one-liner was the filter. I made a new file, .gmic_faves and put the filter in it. It shows in G'MIC now but I get an error message.

"endlocal" is usually the last word of the code , so maybe get lost for a error of copy/paste.

Both files are in the right place and named correctly. I have Windows set to show full extensions, so I know there's not additional .txt on the extension. This machine is just being spastic and my "super duper" machine is in for repair yet again. I said I want it replaced, but it doesn't look like that will happen. There is no lemon law for laptops.

Windows is almost as strange a creature as Gimp is.
Every SCM and Python script i download i still have to give it permissions to run (un-block it).
I think it was something the latest windows update added to my registry keys.

I didn't had problem yet with gimp script but i had general problem in windows 7, as example to edit a file i had to switch to linux, enter in the Windows partition and edit and save from linux.
(if not edit were not applied

Obviously was a permission problem but apparently impossible to solve

In Win 7 I had to unblock everything. Not so in XP.

I'm not having an issues with my Win7 64-bit. I wonder if you are running GIMP in compatibility mode; I'm not. :)

Isn't there an area on your partition just for running 32 bit in windows 7?

On the Win 7 system, Gimp is installed in the Program Files (x86) directory, and I wasn't using compatability mode. On the XP system, I went in to see if there was any type of permissions issue with the files and it doesn't seem to be a problem. I'll figure it out eventually.

Does Gimp auto install into that directory on Windows 7 or do you have to manually install there yourself?

I finally have my "new" Win 7 machine, to replace the bad one. I have been slowly installing everything but came up with an odd issue with G'MIC 1.4.8.2 that has my perplexed. Gimp starts, but hangs up on the file gmic_bashcompletion.exe, which leaves a command box open. If I 'X' out of it Gimp starts normally and G'MIC appears to run normally as well. I changed the .exe extension to my initials, so it won't run on Gimp's startup. Everything seems ok. I wonder if there was some un-cought compiler error?

EDIT: I found my answer here at GC. I missed it before. Since I only run G'MIC from Gimp I don't need that file.

As I recall, the newer versions of G'MIC come with a trouble shooting routine that's important to David but not needed by GIMP and it causes this. Just remove this file from you GIMP Plugins directory and all is well. Details below. :)

I'm wondering if Mahvin has his favorites working yet and if so, how he did it. I can't get them working on the old XP machine and I cant get them working on the new Win 7 machine.

No, I never got it working, not even with the latest 1.4.8.2 version. And I never got a response, so I am guessing David is either too busy or doesn't have a fix for it.

The only way I can get it to work, is to empty my .gmic file, and start fresh. Same with .gmic_faves.

That's so weird. Seeings how the file is the same name. So you just re-paste the same presets, and filters and it works?

Okay, I know this might be kind of a stupid Question, but what is G'MIC? and what good is it?
I don't know much about Plugins for GIMP, so that is why I am asking.
Would it be worth Getting for someone who just makes, Signatures (Tags)?

Sorry if this is the wrong place,
Willy

Sure it would.
G'MIC stands for GREYC's Magic Image Converter.
http://gmic.sourceforge.net/

490 filters in one plug-in - try it

Thanks I am downloading it now, anything else you would recommend? That are useful for someone who is making Sigs? I am thinking about getting Blender too... For a project at school.

I have Vista, and GIMP installed, I have just downloaded G'MIC and have the Zip open in RAR, what do I do next?
