Hey I do a sig or edit one at least once a day. I am looking for what you guys think I can do to improve.

So here is some of my work, and just tell me what you think, my only Rule is that you guys have to be honest.

I like the last one best because the focal is so easy to see. I'm not a fan of focals that are so buried into the sig that you can barely make it out. For example, the second one down took me a long time with some squinting and tipping my head before I finally spotted the focal, and I have no idea what it is.

The focal in the second one is a guy from MW2 I think... That one there was overblended a little, when I made that one I was just learning about Blending X D, so yeah... if the backgrounds all look the same, that is because I found a tutorial, that makes nice backgrounds, and as they go along, they stray from that tutorial quite a bit, just they all look similar.

Will be posting up my daily art here in a little while.

I think with darker backgrounds in sigs, you need to highlight/glow the name "Willy" so it can at least be seen by old farts (like myself). Otherwise, what's the point in blending in your name to the point its barely visible?

Did you call yourself an Old Fart? o.O

I have my name that way, because it matches his Armor... I will see if I can make it stand out more.

Thanks for the Tips, anyone is welcome to say whatever they want.

The one with Ghost, I think bone text would be fitting, or real spiritual wispy type of text. Just my opinion, though. They all look good. :)

Yes, I called myself an old fart. See those glasses on my penguin avatar? Those are bifocals, lol.

Transitioning bifocals. I have only made one actual sig (in the same vein as your styles on this thread). Here is a link to it:

You really should make more Sigs :D, the only thing I have to say, is the Glow around the Spartan doesn't fit

It would be better if the spartan was Blue like background too, like maybe a Darker Blue so he would stand out still, but not be so... Green with all blue

The ones from the first post look good. Maybe a little too soft, needs some harder edges here and there. But I'm probably wrong, grungy sigs are not really my thing.

Both the Hitman one and the Gears of War one are pretty cool and are good candidates for added depth. Put more focus on the focal by making the edges of the sig a bit darker and adding a light source (which I'm not very good at). You can also make the outer portions of the sig just a little blurry to make the focal appear sharper and to draw the eye to it.

I'm sorry if this is horribly offensive (or against the rules), let me know if you want it removed, but I took your GOW sig and added some of the elements I mentioned here:

Image

Your name was a victim of blurring the background. Also cleaned up the color to make it less red/pink, made the fire brighter to take advantage of the "natural" light source, and added a border (the wrong border, but still).

I think this is the only one I noticed this in, but the text would have been better placed on the other side of the guy. There is a lot going on on the left side of the sig, but the right is fairly empty. You can balance out the flow by putting your name somewhere to the left of him. Do a search for "rule of thirds" and see if it gives you any ideas.

Hope this helps, you do a good job!

Really I mean the complete opposite of that.

That is really nice, I added the XCF so you can explain what you mean a little better, sorry if there is some random stuff in there... I like to expieriment.

Thanks,
You have some talent there. :D

You're absolutely right, I didn't do a very good job of blending my colors (and a whole lot of other stuff, to boot). It was my first sig, and, well...I got lazy. :) The next time I get adventurous with sigs, I'll be sure to request your input for improvements, for sure.

And I'll probably ask Amanda, too. Nice work, Amanda. :)

Bottom line: If getting offended on a GIMP forum comes easy to anyone, whew boy. I love criticism, or I don't grow or get better. And if 9 out of 10 people say, "It sucks". It means I have a lot of work to do, to improve.

You should get adventurous now, man, you have talent just like Amanda does :D
You have talent too, about your sig, did you make that yourself? From nothing? The hill effect? That is really cool

Oh that, sig? I (what's the word?) didn't really try very hard on the current sig. I hurried it? I always keep telling myself, "I'll make it better, improve it..." then life happens, and tends to interfere with my plans.

Yeah, I want to make a new gimpchat sig that has a larger portion of my personality evident.

Nothing surreal or game based, just sort of down to earth stuff.
