Hi molly,

This is what I get with an old B&W picture, using the G'MIC filter Black & White / Colorize [interactive].
It took me no more than 10 mn to get this result. Quite decent I think.

Wow, David that is a great result. Now, if I can emulate that, I will be quite happy, lol
I still don't know how to get that swatch that you used in the video. All my tools, gradients, color swatches are in Thunar File Manager, and I can't get to it.

David, I finally found out what I was doing wrong. I didn't check the mode and it was on Grayscale, I changed it to RGB and VOILA, it now works. woo hoo.
thanks for your patience :pengy :pengy "O doesn't like this guy"

For some reason this filter is really slow.

Slow ? how slow ? For the final rendering ? (what is your image resolution ?). For the interactive rendering ? (what option did you choose, what is your CPU, etc... ).
Please give more infos to quantize this slowness and determine if this is normal or not.

I chose medium for the resolution, input is B&W photograph, output type is colors 1 layer.

OK, but how slow ? Several minutes ? seconds ? what the size of the picture ?
It is not uncommon to wait several seconds on a quite slow machine that the colors refreshes, particularly when computing fullres result.
This filter does quite smart (but CPU-consuming) things, that is also why it is interesting :)

The size of the photo is 356 x 400. It takes minutes to render.

That is indeed unusual.
I don't have an explanation for this. Maybe you should try the latest binaries posted today.

I have the latest version of G'MIC but I still don't get why the colorize interactive filter is slow.

It should be interesting to have an idea of the cause.
Maybe you are running out of memory ? (very unlikely, for this resolution) . Do you run it on Windows, Linux ?
Is there anybody else having this issue ?

I just downloaded and installed gmic 1.6.0.1 from sourceforge for Win/7 64, and there is no "Black & White / Colorize" [interactive].

I would appreciate someone helping me locate it.

Thanks,
adam933

It's going to take me awhile to get the hang of this, but I'm off to a fair start in it.

Looks good.
My first line art was a disaster because there were a few breaks or spaces in the black out line so that lets the other colors bleed into the area next to it. I went back and alpha selected it and put a wide black outline then it was perfect.
I am not having as good luck with the photos though, of coarse the one of Elvis turned out pretty good. I tried a few harder ones with more colors after that and they were a disaster.
