in Gimp? My daughter wants me to do it shortly. Probably in a couple hours on a photo of children.

That's tough Sallyanne; I know of now way to automate watercolor runs. I will be keeping an eye on this thread too if someone knows a cool solution. Otherwise, get your paintbrush out. lol

This is the best that I could do using DAP Emo preset. :)

Thanks Lyle. She found me a gimp tut and asked for colour to be thrown back into it so it doesn't look like a photo - (you have to look twice to see who it is)
I will have a look at it now.

Sorry sallyanne - I tried using brushes and GMIC watercolour and after 5 minutes (you did say quick), this was the best I could do.

Perhaps the tut will do it.

Thanks. I will try tonight. Just tried the tut - well half way a couple times and watched the rest. (Thought it may be an advantage to watch it first.) I must get it done tonight so daughter can have it tomorrow. At least I have a couple hours more now.

Completely gets rid of their eyes, except one and then it is just a black button. Could be that the picture in the tut and the one I am working on are different sizes and I just need to change the params to suit.

I may have to post the pic and leave it in more advanced hands. What I replied to Lyle earlier was what she said to me this afternoon. She would rather have this pic (similar to a cartoon/water-painted, painting) on her wall than a 'photographed portrait'

Just thinking to, even if it can be done could a printer make it bigger?

If any-one wants to try this, I will give them the pic but it isn't very big.

Just for a fun experiment, I ran the GIMP Resynthesize v1.0 filter in texture transfer mode using your photo as the output map, and the zebra painting as the texture source and input map, after editing out the watermark and signature from the zebra (which is a pretty naughty thing to do, but in this case it's just for family artwork so I don't feel too bad). I left all the "tweaks" at default settings. I didn't really expect to get a useful result but instead it really surprised me!

Then I processed the original photo with a high pass, some levels, G'MIC's Pencil filter, and some more levels, to make kind of a drawn edge overlay.

There's also a version upscaled 300% with the drawing filtered with with a special one I've made specifically to upscale drawings, and then both the watercolor and the drawing sharpened with G'MIC's "shock filter".

Thanks Odin.
Here's a hint... I followed one of Chris F's tutorial (See Topic Link). He's another one that we haven't seen hide nor hair of in a while. I wonder how he's doing?
