I found 12 different images of sitting Amida Buddha
then scaled them so that they're generally same size and similar positions.
Then I set the opacity so that they all show through to contribute to this final image.
(bottommost layer 1 is 100/1 percent opacity, next layer is 100/2 percent opacity, next is 100/3 percent opacity and so on you get the idea).
I think it's kind'a neat. since this image does not look like any of the images individually, but generally is still a sitting Amida Buddha.

in this one I tried to align the head position so that i get a clearer image of the head/face.
and also i placed the original 12 images around the outside so you can see that the result head is not like any of the original heads..

I wasn't too happy with the previous Jesus so i edited
but this time used the eyes as alignment to get a clearer image.
The result is VERY interesting i think.
Each image around the border is the original, all paintings and look like paintings.
But the center image (average of paintings) look much more realistic as a real face.

trandoductin:fun to compare the result with all the components! i don't know if i agree about the resulting jesus picture looking more realistic, but i think it has more character than most of the individual component paintings had.

:D hehe ....more of something... I agree about comparing though...i keep looking for similarities from originals and it's hard to pin point it out except the the obvious shooting halo and the opened arms. but the face is something that emerges from all 10 which i think is just too interesting.

8 different photos of him (some black and white, some color).
Then bumped contrast and saturation.

i tend to think so.
I read about face research where they took real averages of faces using computer software (not just by overlaying them but actually average out where the face features are and compose a new image). The results are considered more attractive looking.
Some people say it might be things such as facial flaws, uneven lighting, zits and stuff tend to disappear in the average image and so the person looks more attractive.

Pretty cool stuff Tran. Sort of reminds me of Illusion. I had forgotten the name of the filter and I literally re-installed GIMP 1.2.4 in my XP VM (thought they might have eliminated this filter. When I recover from gold point, the program will no longer exist in my VM) to re-discover it. It's still available in GIMP 2.8.x under maps. :)

it's a matter of taste, i showed it to a friend and he just isn't into it.
I stare each piece when it's done and admire the illusion that emerges

lylejk: i'd completely forgotten about that filter :)! i played with it a lot in the first gimp version i tried, but after a break of a couple of years i didn't even remember it existed.
trandoductin: i agree about the illusion, i think the pictures come out very interesting! the elephant, for example, has a sort of built in movement in it that i like. i made an attempt at making a miss marple picture this way yesterday, but it was too hard finding pictures that face the same way (tilting is not much of a problem, but perspective angle is) so the result was a bit of a disappointment. i'll make another try today and see what happens!

I agree with the difficulty to find images of similar angles and perspective.
i tried using the different angles as more abstract pieces like these 2
very abstract except the for one eye that is lined up

audrey hepburn very abstract.
Image
less abstract bruce lee
Image
or this abstract shoe (i thought it was very hard to get exact perspective on shoes there are so many, but they're forever slightly different)

Tin, you have thought of such a interesting idea in photography. I like the result a lot. Thanks for sharing. :) :bigthup :bump
