Tin, you have thought of such a interesting idea in photography. I like the result a lot. Thanks for sharing. :) :bigthup :bump

I am glad you enjoy the results as me ;)
I didn't come up with it... a long time ago, i read that there's this averaging art of this guy that took all playboy's magazine covers and averaged them all. But because there was no alignment to anything it came out as swatches of color.
And i came across face research site that took features of the face and averaged their placement for real.
So naturally this idea of using average of multiple images with alignment was a natural thing to try... before when i first tried it long ago after reading about the playboy's magazine one i just took a bunch of nude photos and averaged them without alignment i came out with not so nice looking results.
I guess the only thing that's kinda new here is alignment of features to come out with some sort of picture rather than blobs of random color.

like this guy here http://salavon.com/ he has many pieces that are average of more images but he doesn't align them to get certain features to show...just straight forward averaging...so his pieces come out like abstract blobs/swatches of color. it's a different kind of taste for sure.

Thank you Tin, as you say, it's a different kind of taste but I like much, much more your aligning style. :bigthup

so glad you like them.
It seems your eyes can be made sharper with better alignment of the irises. Are you using guides to align?

This is what i do.
I use one photo/image (and move it to bottommost layer, i usually use the largest image) as reference.
Create guides to show me where the irises of the eyes are, if i am doing directly facing photos, if they photos are different perspective i just use one of the irises and bottom of chin as reference.
Then I have google spread sheet that i created to do all the simple tedious math for me..
then for each layer, i rotate so it's generally straight, align one of the irises, move the mouse to the second iris (or bottom of chin if they're not head on perspective). enter x-coordinate into spread sheet (or y coordinate if i am using chin instead of iris) and the spread sheet calculates how much to scale up/down by percentage. Then I scale up/down using that percentage, and move the layer so that it matches with the guides.

Also i notice that after layering all images, the result is usually low contrast, so i create new from visible and bump up the contrast.

trandoductin: thank you for the tips! you have a clever way of using those google spreadsheets, i would never have thought of that. i hadn't thought of aligning the irises either, i used a guide straight through the eyes from left to right on my first image and aligned the others using that, but i hadn't thought of aligning them vertically. wasn't scaling according to mathematic principles either, maybe that's a reason miss marple was so messy.

This one was easy to align since all images of pop bottles generally look the same, but the bottle isn't so interesting since it's just all the same shape...the average of labels however is interesting i think (7 images).
Image
The real question is: Would you drink a drink that's composed of 7 different kinds of pop?

Since I am going to vote for the Green Party, I thought I'd do one of Elizabeth May (of Green Party) (10 images).
Image

and since i did pop bottles might as well do slurpees too (6 images).

Oh you picked a great subject to do ;)
with your result you should try to "new from visible" and up the contrast and see if the illusion emerges greater.

here i just took your result and up the contrast and brightness (i usually play with these two settings to get the illusion to pop out).
Image

I hope you don't me trying to do the same subject (7 images, it's hard to find different images, i think i have 3 of the same image so it's like 4 different images rather than 7, but the result is very different from the individual 7 source images).
Image

It's very interesting to be able to compare the result image with original source images.
Below are originals (LEFT) and combined result(RIGHT).

Tin, lots of thanks for your kindness and help. Here I'm trying a better result I got last time, but still far away yours. If I get something, I'll show it. ;)
Thank you so much. :tyspin
