I had to play around a lot... and don't remember steps...
But maybe you can play with this .xcf. change the color layers... and maybe the logo layer and put your logo there and add your own inner glow and outer glow.
The super bright spot can be better, but i lost my patience.
I think Congabui would be really good at replicating the youtube video in GIMP.

That's a good try. I think I will try it out myself. I hope Congabui can replicate this video for us Gimp users.

Here's the written instructions, Make Social Media Icon Buttons.
Would BRL help?

I have the written instructions.. 46 steps is a lot though. Not sure if BRL would help. I think this would take me countless hours to get a first try.

making shiny buttons isn't terribly hard, but getting that pattern inside exactly as the pic might be difficult.

Does it have to be exactly the same?
If not,
I've made a video on how I made the glossy button in the image below.
I made the video on the fly so it's not very professional like, but it does show how I did it.

This is what it looks like.

Wallace, it doesn't have to be exactly the same.. similar is what I want. Nothing is ever exactly how we want it.

doesn't gimp have a shiny button maker in the file-create menu, or somewhere in Gimp?

I made this button using the Plastic and Glass script.

You would need to add some pressed in text, or something like that.

Yes, it makes buttons that look like this one. You can also add text to it.

This is where it's located in my Gimp.
I'm not sure if it's a default Gimp script.

I'd rather do it by hand than have a script maker produce it for me.

That's cool.

If you like that here are the scripts.
I pulled them form my Gimp scripts folder.
There's 2 scripts.
One does dark colored orbs and the other does light ones.

Since it looks like GUG has totally died (yet again) and with it the tutorials archive

Here are 2 that fit the topic, not much changed in 10 years ;) and a bit of history for all you long serving Gimp users.

I tried out Conbagui's tutorial and here's what I came up with:
Image

I used a social media icon brush instead of an image for that step in the tutorial.
The brushes I found are here:

Here's another set of brushes you may like:
