I gave up on the alligator. Tried to crystalize my gem paislies in a wood frame.

Thank you, Lyle. I watched a short video about gradient mapping. I'll try that next after I watch what is done a few more times.

pay attention to some blur (gems are never blurred)
apply some filter to sharpen, like unsharp mask
