I have an HDMI cable going from my GPU to my monitor. It was somehow working itself loose and interrupting the signal to my monitor. How it worked itself loose is another story, but I digress.

I was looking at the back of my computer, (scratching my head) looking for a way to secure the HDMI cable and noticed that I had to other connections on my GPU that had screw-on connections. The one on the left is the standard VGA hookup and the other on the right is a Dual Link DVI-I, HDMI, VGA connection.

I measured the distance between the screws and it was the same.
I had an extra VGA cable with a connector exactly like the one in the picture below.
I cut into the blue part (using a hobby knife) of the connector, the part with the screws attached. Being careful not to damage the cable underneath. (See yellow dotted cut line on blue VGA connector)
Once the cut was made, I spread the connector apart until I could remove the cable and it's housing from the blue connector.
Then I just feed the HDMI cable into the now removed blue VGA connector, screwed it in and now the cable is secure and will not be able to work it's way free interrupting my monitors picture.

You must have a setup similar to the one in the picture to be able to do this.

Thanks. :bigthup
I don't own a camera or I would have taken pictures, to better illustrate the hack. I'm not sure if it's completely understandable what I actually did.

Those HDMI cables should all come with some way of securing them, most don't and they are for the most part always barely attached.

Smart and robust solution Wallace (it would probably survive a nuclear blast :hehe ).
In case if you're going to have a second monitor, there's usually a screw on the inside connecting HDMI socket to the chassis
that needs to be tightened.

I guess I wouldn't have to worry about that, because I'm sticking to the one monitor for now. ;)

It's a PNY - GeForce GT 610 2GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 Graphics Card. It's not expensive and fits my needs as well as my system.

You are the Dr. Frankenstein of the PCs. First the good job you did with the cooling fan and now this cool invention. Tell me something Wallace, when the monitor turned on did you scream: It's Alive... :rofl

Yes! :hehe

Here's a picture of what the cable hack looks like when it's attached to the back of my desktop PC.

Impressive DIY, Wallace. My bet is there's no such a thing as coincidences and this spacing, by design, is identical the the VGA connector screws width for a reason, but I've not heard of anyone doing what you did before. Kudos to your ingenuity. :)

Thanks you guys. :bigthup
I since changed the GPU on my machine and the "HDMI Cable Hack" I came up with is no longer needed.

I'm now running the gtx 970 mini.
