There hasn't been an update to 2.8.16 since last November (if memory serves me correctly) yet this version's been updated 4 times since. What gives? I know some of the excuses were security related (SHA and Win10), but all 4 versions? Crazy. Why don't the developers release 2.10x? Just curious. Still happy that 2.8.16 works fine (haven not had to re-install it that is). :)

Hi,

I usually stick around at GIMP IRC channel to read about how GIMP is progressing. I also ask alot of questions there. And from what I read there GIMP 2.10 will be out soon. They are just finalizing things.

Regards.

I really recommend following the GIMP G+ account: https://plus.google.com/+gimp/posts/c9XnQWKh4Bs

Thanks for the link Kevin. Sort of since read that it mainly affects the 32-bit users. Still, you would think after 4 updates (and I'm sure bugzilla fixes), they would just release a 2.8.18. :)

But all that has changed here and in the prevoius updates is the installer. There haven't been that many bug fixes to the 2.8 line. My impression is that almost all the effort is going into the development of 2.10 and beyond.

There are no "excuses", just fixes to give users usable software. I'm glad you weren't affected (or, rather, you feel like you weren't). That is not the case for many other users. There will be at least the 6th update of 2.8.16 to address memory requirements at installation time.

2.10 will be out when it's ready. The roadmap that lists unfinished tasks is public and has been public for a long time. We might skip e.g. Seamless Clone tool which is only available if you specifically enable it anyway, but the rest needs work.

Thanks for the update prokoudine. Again, so far, I've not seen an issue with 2.8.16 since I installed it. With all the updates to Win10, my bet is the installer that I do have wouldn't work again without the additiona 2.8.16 updates for sure based on other folks experiences. :)
