...but you are right, Pauline, Graechan registered his shine functions under "beautify", which creates a bit of confusion (one may think that all goes together, but they are two different filters); I personally changed the shine registration function to go to another menu entry, not to get confused

perhaps that is so...I find it a bit confusing and I would hate to lose that beautiful option of beautify.
I have used GIMP on mac for years and would be lost without some of the features.
I have also thought about putting one of the LINUX programs on my virtual machine ad using GIMP there as an alternative.
I think it would have some rewards and more flexibility with some things.
I'd be interested to find out from others, the best way to go about this, in as far as choosing a LINUX OS and then installing GIMP and relative filters, scripts and plug ins.

Pauline, if you have those entriers in the menu, Beautify must be running.
Did you check to have in your user gimp folder also the ancillary folders for the borders?
I wanted to attach them here, but they are too big.
Now I don't have time (I'm going out), but in the meantime check whether you have:
simple-border
and
rip-border
folders, under your user/gimp
You may find them somewhere else, if not, by searching the thread.

dinasset, it runs on this version of GIMP which is that from lisanet.de.
They do not appear at all in Parthas version.
There is a filter called beautify which comes up in the same place, but it has the shine alpha and shine logo in it and nothing else

It seems to me that the text etc for the plug ins are all on that website of his...anyone who knows how to, could actually do it I reckon and get them running.

Pauline, if you have one version which has all the pieces needed, you may also try the following:
- identify how the compiled versions for Mac are named
(the equivalent of the .exe versions for Windows): they should be 4:
beautify.???, border.???, simple-border.???, skin-whitening.???
(??? stays as a placeholder for mac compiled suffix)
- copy from the Gimp version where you have them into the one you don't
- copy also the folders with the ancillary images: I have two:
rip-border, simple border

I think I figured out why 2-ton.
Graechan called his "shine" scripts beautify originally I believe and so that is why they both appeared in the same place on GIMP.
Secondly, the bits that I was after, which appear in the lisanet version of GIMP 2.8.14 are built in to the program, but not built into parthas version...
which explains why they are not there.
Thirdly, the folders to compile it are available at https://github.com/hejiann/beautify
When hejiann was called a racist over them, he stopped progressing with the plug in and left it all there on that website. Lock Stock and Barrel.
Whoever wants to can go there and take them and compile them for GIMP it seems to me.
I think Partha probably may not be aware of this plug in and that might be why he does not include it.

My Linux system has Beautify in Gimp but won't recognise the extra folders that are supposed to go with it. I have looked through this thread and notice only Windows users seem to have the use of the extra folders. Do I have to find a way to compile it myself?

If you have Beautify installed already the only thing I can think of, are your extra textures in the right path?
~/.gimp-2.8/rip-border
~/.gimp-2.8/texture-border

This works when Beautify is compiled for machine or user.

Thanks Odinbc, I had the folders in the plugin folder instead. When I moved them to the Gimp2.8 folder they appeared in the options. Now I can have fun exploring them , especially the Sinedots ones as the Sinedots filter won't work in CS2.

So i have tried to follow YAFU's post and for some reason I cant get this plugin to work. I have tried having the folders pasted into the .gimp2.8 directory and the plugin directory in there along with the .exe files aslo just for s&gs but no luck for this filter to work. Running ubuntu 1.4. Not sure if anyone could run me through a terminal setup for gimp 2.8 and everything i need to do from scratch. I have looked for hours now and still no luck as to what i really need to be typing into this terminal to make it work. And for some reason my terminal will not let me run a make command.

Anyways thanks for the guide really excited to get this plugin to work. Thanks
Chris

I'm not an expert on this.
What I can tell you is this:
- I have a specific folder (in my case "plug-ins-Beautify64bits")
inside which
-- I have these four .exe: beautify.exe, border.exe, simple-border.exe, skin-whitening.exe
AFAIK it works properly

edit: obviously it works when that folder is among those listed in Gimp/Edit/Preferences/Folders/Plug-ins

Beautify has a lot of choices for borders and effects.
If you don't have this program I would definitely recommend it.

Image Shine script and Beautify also work together to create image and logo effects.

Image Shine will show up under Filters>Beautify by default so don't get the two confused.

RMDesigns, if you like the effects of image shine, please read the thread started by Norseman. You'll love it! BTW, has Norseman posted recently? Did I miss it?

This was working for me and still appears in my version of GIMP for mac, but since updating to Sierra I am having a lot of trouble with all scripts...it still will come up when I go there but broadly speaking I have a huge problem with most of the scripts not working properly ...I just cannot get the various adjustments to work and am looking for an answer on how to fix not only beautify but just to use an age old script, will not react to me hitting the button to activate it or get it to work.

Beautify for Gimp 2.9_Win_32bit

Source:
https://github.com/rigred/beautify-gimp2.9 (Latest commit 28 Nov 2016)
Textures Download:
https://github.com/hejiann/beautify/wiki/Textures-Download

I made a few changes:
- it's only the equivalent Rip-border and Texture-border;
- in GIMP menu: Filters -> Decor-> Beautify Image ...;
- now the resource catalog is Beautify-Image (with subdirectories at the discretion of eg.: Art, Border, Paper, Texture...);
- no built-in images (so the size of the "border.exe" file he was responsible for rip-border and texture-border has decreased from 67 Mb to 0,38 Mb).
