this is a special edition without the use of g'mic, for people like Dalia
differences:
- the initial smoothing is obtained by gimp selective gaussian blur
- no post-processing available (they were all using g'mic)

just to show to Dalia (and other people having systems (Mac?) where g'mic is not working properly) that the results are very much close to those you can get with the original version (obviously, w/o post-processes. which btw by default are set to "none")

...and for this one I used "knitting" textures (which looked to be suitable given the subject)

dinasset, not only are you kind to go the extra mile in trying to accommodate us mac users but you're a genius. :tyspin

Just did a very quick run and it works - now, for me to learn how to use it  A very quick show that I ran it as quickly as I downloaded it - not very good but will try again after dinner :hehe

Still figuring out how powerful your preset is, Diego. Just used a single texture this time (Walnut in this case). Thanks again for this gem. :)

Wow, very happy to see you in the game Dalia !
And very nice outcomes. Thanks.

Thanks Lyle for the new experiment with single texture.

On a mac using dinasset's plugin - used "glass" as the pattern.

Dinasset: I need some basic instruction for this filter as I keep getting errors or my computer locks up. Maybe I am not setting up parameters correctly. I did try to start with the default settings. I could be using the wrong type of photo, or does it have to be line art? Do I make selections and do one at a time? Please advise.

Hi Pat, I may be wrong but I believe this was the plugin dinasset created for those of us on Macs who couldn't use the original plugin he put together.

Dalia's comment is correct, but anyhow you get that error (also in the original version) when:
1-as type of filler you choose "Gradients"
2-no one gradient in your active set of gradients has the string you have chosen in its name.
Just to start easily you may have a look at the gradients listed in the gradient panel (bottom right area for my Gimp) and find inspiration for choosing the substring of text to use.
If you on the contrary want to "create/re-nominate" your own, beware that the name of the gradient is NOT the external name but the internal "description".
I did something in that sense:
-I selected a set of gradients I liked
-I renamed them "externally"
-I edited them with a text editor to change internally also the deescriptive name
-I refreshed and checked that I could see my changed "names" appearing in the panel

Pat, let me make an example.
I have a gradient called "Jeans.ggr".
Its internal decriptive name is also "Jeans" (you may see it by editing the file Jeans.ggr with for instance Notepad++.
Look:
GIMP Gradient
Name: Jeans
3
0.000000 0.140575 0.313099 0.419608 0.439216 0.521569 1.000000 0.443137 0.458824 0.545098 1.000000 0 0 0 0
0.313099 0.577210 0.739084 0.443137 0.458824 0.545098 1.000000 0.592157 0.607843 0.674510 1.000000 0 0 0 0
0.739084 0.938232 1.000000 0.592157 0.607843 0.674510 1.000000 0.760784 0.768627 0.823529 1.000000 0 0 0 0

Assume I want to change its name to something different because there is only one of my gradients called that way but four similar called "...Denim...".
Hence I want to have it in that set.
I decided to call it "my Denim for Jeans" hoping that having Denim included in its external name would suffice.
Wrong: the gradient still appears in the gradients panel as simply "Jeans" and it's not selected among the other "...Denim..." if I enter the word "Denim" as the searching text in the filter.
I had to edit it with Notepad++ and change the second line of the text from "Name: Jeans" to "Name: my Denim for Jeans".
Look:
GIMP Gradient
Name: my Denim for Jeans
3
0.000000 0.140575 0.313099 0.419608 0.439216 0.521569 1.000000 0.443137 0.458824 0.545098 1.000000 0 0 0 0
0.313099 0.577210 0.739084 0.443137 0.458824 0.545098 1.000000 0.592157 0.607843 0.674510 1.000000 0 0 0 0
0.739084 0.938232 1.000000 0.592157 0.607843 0.674510 1.000000 0.760784 0.768627 0.823529 1.000000 0 0 0 0

Restarting/Refreshing now it appears with the new name and it's taken into account when I enter "Denim" as searching text for Gradients in my filter. The info message of the filter says now that it used 5 gradients for choosing among.

Hope I've been enough clear.
You may do the same experiment.

note: obviously the info above is not only for Pat but for any user who wants to create own gradients copying/renaming existing ones

I can't find where the plug-in is. It should be in Image>Diego>Quantize...but I have no subheading of Diego under Image in my menu.
