Can anyone highlight me the steps of adding common effects e.g shadow eg to text

I don't have specified effects but I will try and test to see which fits

and save it as a logo so that I could use it anytime later? (what format to save?)

btw, when I export an image as JPG, does it mean that all layers are Never reversible? For example when I use a rectangular white to cover a personal information and it will never be reversible on JPG right?

Have you got layer effects yet kenny? Might be something you can play with and find your own uses. There are other things than can be used too.

You may find a few tutorials in the Text Tutorials viewforum.php here too, some may use this and if so you will find out what each effect is good for. Then you can go ahead and do your own.

Exporting as a jpeg you cannot change layers after. If you think you may need to, save as a xcf (this one doesn't need exporting as it is the native file for gimp)

Kenny, I have the one in red frame. It works great for me. Then you will find it in Layers. :)

Hi, so now, I've installed the scripts and I know how to do it.

I've created a text with the text box and then Script-Fu-->Layer Effect-->Outer Glow has done the kinds of text I like.

However, after I save the logo and open it as layer on another image it's not what I want.

I have to repeat the logo for many images so I don't want to go through each image one by one with all the steps.

Any ideas?

@kenny you are probably better off with a py file. Will have to go in your plugins folder. You will find it in the same place - at or near the bottom of the layers menu.

As for your question....What format are you saving your logo as? If you want to have a transparent background I would save it as a .png.
jpeg or flattening it will give your logo a background. White or the color of your current background in gimp.

Otherwise save it as a .xcf and add that to your image as a layer. Merge visible layers when you are done and export as a png.

Kenny1999 - I have only just caught up with your comments in this thread.

The example text you quote above (post #2) was one of my banners. So here is a similar example with the steps in order to create it :)

Image

1. Create your required text in your preferred colour
2. Duplicate the text layer and fill it with a different (darker) colour - this will provide a 3d backgrouind
3. Move this background text layer slightly up and to the right and then move that layer down below the original text layer in the layer dailogue
4. You should now have a 3d effect
5. Create a new visible layer from just these 2 text layers
6. Use the select by colour tool to click on a transparent part of the layer, then Select>Invert to choose the text itself
7. Choose Filters>GMIC>Testing>Samj>Artistic>Granular Texture and click the Apply button.

Thats it.
