GIMP Version: 2.8.1
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: 10
GIMP Experience: New User

A graphic designer provided me a PSD created in Adobe Creative cloud Photoshop. According to the graphic designer, the PSD should have multiple layers. However when I view it in GIMP I only get one layer with all graphic content flattened.

We tried rasterizing the layers in Photoshop. This did not seem to fix the problem. We only see one layer in GIMP.

I have been able to open PSD with layers in GIMP before. This is the first time I've encountered a PSD that GIMP would show only one layer for.

Is there something we need to change in the PSD? Is there anything I need to do with GIMP to get multiple layers, other than simply opening the PSD?

I can provide a link to the PSD (55mb download) if that is helpful.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Is it a cmyk psd? Gimp won't open them. I keep Krita around to open cmyk psd's. If you could let us see the file that would help.

Thanks for your offer to help. Here is the url to the psd (55mb zip file).

aviarts[dot]com/downloads/ssa.zip

Note that phpbb3 is not allowing me to post an "offsite" url. The file is too large to be attached to the post. So hopefully you can get to it from the cryptic url above.

Yes CMYK psd images open as single layer in gimp on my computer too. But RGB opens up with layers.

Gimp wouldn't open it as layers but Krita did. I suggest you get a copy of Krita as it's now a standalone app you can put on the Desktop. The image is not cmyk but it's a different type of psd I haven't seen before.

Kimba is correct, 16 bit RGB image made with Mac PS.

Got the image info via Imagemagick but no good conversion.

Best bet is Krita. Open the psd then immediately re-save as a new psd image.

800-something layers, many of them hidden.

Big snag of course is that all PS text layers are rasterized :)

ok, I will get Krita and resave the psd. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to download and view this psd and try to figure out what is going on.

I also downloaded the trial version of Photoshop to see if I can alter the psd and figure out what is causing incompatibility with GIMP.
