I just wanted to share something i created in Xara Graphic Design.
There is a tutorial for this on XaraZone.com, but of course mine is not done entirely by tutorial alone as usual. ;)
I thought it was pretty cool looking.

I agree this looks very nice, and glossy. Blender FTW!

Thanks, the only thing that still bothers me is the transparent blend for the glass over the clock face.
It just seems to white too me for some reason.

Mike i really like your new sig, very cool.

Amazing! :kpix

I can also see what you mean about the glass. Maybe the problem is where the white ends at the bottom?

I think you are right on the money Jolie.
A gradient more from the top then the corner would have been better i think.
I will work on it some more. :)

Thanks everyone!

I love your project (artwork), looks fantastic. Too bad I despise Windows and too bad Xara has sort of dropped open source side of their software.

Looks great Rod. :bigthup

I had downloaded Xara back when they had begun the move towards an open source version of Xara. I enjoyed testing it out and it seemed to be a very full featured vector graphics program. Somewhere along the way, the company backed out of supporting bringing Xara to open source. I haven't really kept up with it since that time.

I think Magix owns Xara now. They do offer some freebies but nothing is open source.
When they came out with a blazing hot rendering engine i think that's what changed their minds about open source.

It is too bad. They probably could have gotten some amazing additions from the open-source world. :)

I still use X5 sometimes but I think inkscape is better at node sculpting. It has better tools. I tried X6 for a few sweeks but I just didn't see anything to justify the price, even though previous customers get pretty good discounts.

Since we're on the subject, All xara products cost money, so how does Linux have it for free?

When I was using Windows, I asked that question myself. Why are they providing Xtreme to Linux users but asking (at the time was $80) for the same Windows version.

Here is the fix on the transparent gradient.I think it looks better now. :)

Image

I didn't see any reason to grab Xara Pro (i did test it), as it was 299 dollars and i have a very capable web building tool already (Pablos Web Builder 7.6.2)
I paid 89 dollars for Graphic Designer. (which is the old Xara Xtreme).
Xara Extreme Pro is still named that but includes the web building tools.Which isn't really that many more options.
And if you ask me Blender is a great 3-D tool, but is very hard to learn.
Xara is so easy it took me 1 week to create my first 3-D image.I have hardly ever opened Blender, though i have had it for years.
