I used a website to try effects, specifically is this:
picturetopeopleorg/image_effects/photo-hdr/3d-hdr-photo-effect-editor
and want to replicate with GIMP, is there a plugin to do this? if not I would like to use BIMP to semi-automatize and apply 'X effects' as needed on series of images.
How can I replicate this effect?
Thanks you in advance (this is my second post here)

Hi AMucha, I tried that effect by applying a filter of my friend Dinasset. Is this what you want to get?

Yes, I think it is, just with more enhancing the hot channels (bright and saturation)

Does this Dinasset filter have also those options (hot channels)? the hdr part is exactly the same. Where I can find this?

I'm happy you find the sample similar to what you are looking for.
Well you will find his filter in the thread named "DaveHillEffect" author Dinasset. He has hundred of wonderful filters to apply.
My process was this:
open your original layer and apply "DaveHillEffect" in strong option in Keil Effect.
Then I applied (G'MIC-white and black- Emboss) to original layer and set the result under DaveHillEffect and set it (upper layer) to SoftLight layer mode.
I suppose you can add more colour.
Luck!

You have an addaptation of the filter here:
DIEGO_ARTISTIC_DaveHillEffectQT.zip [3.45 KiB]
find the thread named "Error when I run The DaveHillEffect created by doronf2, find the post number 8, Dinasset posted there this nice filter. :)

Or you can use the Exaggeration filter on a duplicate layer and switch blending mode to Overlay or Screen. Whatever you prefere.

I will not stop until I find a satisfying extreme effect, did you check the website? it have 4 directions to make the elevation effect and the change from one to another is very noticeable. I need this.

IDK, Your original filtered image looks like crap to me. But if that look is what you are after, check some of the Contour filters out in G'mic.

Hi AMucha.
I would continue to use the website for that effect because Gimp doesn't produce every effect easily. The google deep dream generator is an example. https://deepdreamgenerator.com/
You need a neural network to make the deep dream images.

I've been wanting to say this for some time. For me effects like this should be called 'degradations'. I don't think a girl with skin like weathered sandstone would get many dates. So how kind is it on the model?
I see a lot of art here at Gimp Chat that to me is actually worse than the original photographic material. I'm probably guilty of it myself. The term 'art' is so broad that destroying the planet with overpopulation could be called 'art'.
There was a guy here last year doing 'art' from meat. Do I want an effect like that in Gimp? Hope not. :paint

I have an explanation for my wish of this degradation.

Real photos aren't practical for my interactive visual novel project because its a sort of choose your own adventure with somewhat original illustrations, and dont want just cartoon, so I want an experimental fake hdr with exaggerated details and vivid colors to illustrate as background of an interactive story.

I want this way because the public shouldn't be distracted unconsciensly overanalizing defects on real photos, instead I want them to be fast overwatching impressionist like raw hdr illustrations at the back of a text. Also some character figures will be slightly animated with different backgrounds and it needs to be more raw to work on alpha backgrounds with different lights.

This effect of degradation brings the details worth of watching for storytelling and minimizes distracting on defects of photography manipulation, lights... I want to avoid traditional manual effects like oily painting. It's digital and I want to emphasize 3d and details like if they where raw adhesives or magnets on a wall with same effect, all together helping on telling a story.

Once you have G'MIC QT properly installed and running you may get a result like this simply using:
- increase saturation (Gimp +100)
- G'MIC freaky details (new layer)
- G'MIC emboss (midpoint 200) (new layer)
and playing with layer modes (multiply embossed layer over freaky output)

thanks a lot dinasset, it's a very cool result, noted the steps, now first I have to install and use G'mic plugin properly, it seemed like it doesn't have a UI and works with a console and commands, was very confusing,

Will search youtube tutorials and help files for g'mic.

Part of the original question is being missed

Quote:

With BIMP you do really need to avoid adding extra layers. I can get to here, but only using the extra plugin gmic_gimp_qt see: http://www.gmic.eu

The BIMP structure looks like this, all 'other gimp procedures'

bimp.jpg

1. The gmic filter, this takes 1 for the input layer and a command line v -99 fx_highlight_bloom 26.4,86.19,140.51,31,29.4,0

2. The Emboss filter, you can use BumpMap here but emboss is simpler

3. Auto enhance - no parameters here

4. A bit of extra contrast.

A zipped bimp file example.bimp attached, remember to unzip it.

On a more general note, every image has to judged on its own merits, very difficult to create a recipe that is universal.

That reads like you have installed the command line gmic, rather than the gmic_gimp_qt plugin.

You might have to remove that, depending where you installed it.

Installing for Gimp see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HcFeNGDgDA

It does work now, thanks for the video!

Now I have to find the best working bimp routine with this.

Previously to installing gmick I made a bimp with saturation 30 and sketching 75 and was good results, but this new hdr effect I want is harder.

Would work a mixture of light sketching and your steps?
