The comtessa was accidentally caught up in a fight between two of her suitors and got a nasty cut from a rapier (painful, but at least now she knows she shouldn't accept the duke's proposal. Who would want to marry a man so clumsy with his rapier?!). Luckily, the comtessa like most people of independent fortune, has a fairy house doctor. Dr Dandelionclouds takes a look at the wound and declares it will heal without a scar and then promptly goes on to heal it. After prescribing the patient some poetry and a brew on sage and seaholly and after collecting his pay in the form of two gold rings, a kiss from the maid, and a lock of the comtessa's hair, he takes his leave. The comtessa happily goes off to bed, but her young French maid lies awake for a long while with a nagging question: what does the good doctor do with all those locks of his patients' hair?
