Just recently realized Gimp's lighting effect filter. I'm very pleased with the results I'm seeing so far. It really adds some depth to a typical 2-D image.

Good to see that you have found Lighting Effects - it can be a great 'friend' or because of its strange modus operandum (i.e. not always recognising available files), a cantankerous pest :(

I have realised this after using the filter many times, and particularly recently in the second of the threads below -

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=12412&start=0&hilit=Fabulous

Have fun with it and hopefully you will not experience any problems.

I've found that it's best to enable Bump Map, then point to your bump map. This tends to yield the best results.

Lighting effects is good but yes I have had many errors messages especially while trying to use bump map. Often though I will get an error message and it will do what it says it can't :?

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. I never got any error messages when using Lighting Effects with or without bump map. I like the effects it has and plan on using it quite a bit in the future...

Racer-X - its not the Bump Map that gives problems and nor does it throw out any error messages. It is the Environment Map, which often fails to recognise/make available in the drop down the target layers that the user wishes to apply.

great results racer :coolthup
for me the environment map will only work with 3 layers or less, if I have more than 3 layers nothing I do will show anything other than "empty".

I'm playing with Gimp 2.10 right now. The environmental map works kind of quirky. I have to copy and paste the map to clipboard in order to select it. It works, but I see no need for it. It's easier to use the original text as a mask to extract the map.

Any way here is the result after playing around a little..
