I have gimp use DarkTable to import my Camera Raw images. The result is being able to edit them in 32-bit color space. You have to use Gimp's editing tools though, because G'mic cant handle it.

Nice shot, what plane is that (I guess it's the Blue Angles in the back?)?

It is a nice shot, 4 undo steps, what tweaking did you do?

however

Gmic works internally at 32 bit FP so should be compatible with your images.

I use nufraw to import, so best I get straight into Gimp is 16 bit. https://i.imgur.com/HIJxSEY.jpg

Changing the precision to 32 bit linear FP and opening gmic_gimp_qt https://i.imgur.com/vyHily5.jpg

Surprisingly quick for that filter, about a minute, but a big file, still 32 bit linear FP Image

I was at an Air Show and the Blue Angels were there. The plane in the foreground was a racing plane, don't know the model. The Blue Angels jets are in the background. It looks close because I used my 300 mm lens.

The only steps I did was duplicate layer, curves, white balance and saturation. When I tried G'mic on it, the colors were all messed up and dithered. Not sure why, other than it can't handle 32-bit well. That's my guess.

After further testing, I find that DarkTable import plugin is introducing artifacts in 32-bit RGB. I believe that was causing problems in G'mic. I have now switched to nUFRaw import plugin. It is only 16-bit, but the image is clean and free of artifacts. Here's a full view of that plane.

There aren't that many planes, so you can always search the registration number, that you find here for US-registered ones:

http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry ... rtxt=104MX

Description of the model:

Well that was interesting. Only 12 MXs planes in existence? The owner has some serious coin for sure...

The plane is very beautiful and that's why I shot it. Plus I liked the perspective of a piston prop plane in front of the Blue Angels F-18s, especially the first shot.
