Hi!
I search for some time info about the height maps and how to use them to go from a picture to a bas-relief.
I found a lot of information useful, but I am missing the last step - which is in fact, the first: I would like to transform a normal picture in a good high map grey (that can be used later in 3d engraving software)
See an "initial" picture attached

and a desired final effect

I tried a lot of Gimp filters, also search tutorials but I never reach the "porcelain" quality of the aimed photos...

I saw that there's good discussions around the topic, can anybody give me some hints to how to obtain (with GIMP preferable) those "porcelain" high maps from normal picture?
I would be more than interested on the pegleg44 book "GIMP - Creating Height Map Images for CNC"
Thank you! :)

I've put all the scripts and plug-ins on my website with some videos but I don't think I can post them on this forum.

Hmmm, which site would that be? It can't be "patternhelp.com" (as per your profile) since this can't be reached. At least not from where I am. Can't find it with whois, either.
