They are quite fast... nice to see how serious they take it!

Expecting this; May even be 2.10.6 by end of year. What I want to know is can I install this without having to protect my 2.8x install? :)

edit:

well, that was a waste of time (trying to trick the GIMP installer so that it won't overwrite GIMP 2.8x; lol). Just started a thread at pixls about this. :)

This one for you.

You can install Gimp 2.10.x without disturbing your existing Gimp 2.8.x provided
1. You remove the Gimp 2.8 uninstall information
2. Install Gimp 2.10 to some other place than C:\Program Files\GIMP 2

5 minute video https://youtu.be/dRsk29KPez4

This is almost the reverse of an earlier version showing re-installing Gimp 2.8 after Gimp 2.10 has removed it.

There might well be other easier ways, let the suggestions roll.

@lylejk, I know you will like this....Mathmap works in 2.10.2! ;) and I think many more old plugins.
Hell yeah, Astronomy, guillotine into layers, colorize...it seems that support for the .exe plugins is as good as it was in 2.8 wohoo!
Thanks and bow to devs!

But I have the slider problem with MM, this same thing happens with the old Unsharp Mask 2-0.12

OK Nidhogg; that worked. Now the weird stuff. All of my old GIMP plugins just magically showed up (not complaining) probably cached when I first tried to install GIMP 2.10. Anyway, many plugins give me errors when I start GIMP 2.10 including Bevel Refect Logo. It actually shows up, but, when I try to run the plugin, it errors. The startup error that I get is thus; any work arounds? :)

OK; including screenshot of all the plugins that no longer work in GIMP 2.10 that I had. Have to admit I really don't give a rat's tail for most of them, but I would like to keep ACE (yes; G'MIC can do the job, but still, I like ACE and use it more often then I would like to admit), Resynth (old version of Resynthesizer; kept it around since it handled certain things better than the new Resynthesizer), Bevel Refect Logo, and Focus Blur. Wavelet Sharpen is now part of GIMP so it's not needed (though I use the old version quite often too with GIMP 2.8.22) I was mistaken about Wavelet Sharpen. Regardless, it works in samj's portable but not in gimp 2.10 itself. I get an error console when I launch this plugin in samj's portable (says critical error) but the plugin runs fine. Weird stuff. Again the 2 problematic dlls for all the now defective plugins appears to be only libexiv2.dll and libgraphite2.dll.

Anyone here can suggest a work a round, I would be grateful. :)

I believe all those work fine in my Windows 7 64 with the 2.10.2
My resynthesizer though is the one with 2 .exe files
resynthesizer.exe + resynthesizer-gui.exe (or something like that)
And I didn't test MLBevelReflect yet with 2.10.2 but it worked earlier.
Gonna test each one by one after work and report.
Insanebump I had to degrade back to 1.05 from 1.06, they both work but 1.06 did not show preview windows.
Weird indeed how differently it acts.
Most of my plugins are downloaded from the Win binaries thread, and the Japanese geocities site.

Hi Rich
What happens when I want to update say from 2.10.2 to 2.10.4? Will 2.10 update correctly and 2.8 remain unaltered?

I assume it would since Gimp 2.8 is no longer in the Windows uninstall registry. Does not exist as far as Gimp 2.10.x is concerned.

As with anything make backups just in case. I updated my linux Gimp 2.10 flatpak yesterday but only after I made a full backup of the system partition, just-in-case :)

Yup; samj gave me a head's up about the plugins she compiled. Just finished downloading them but have not installed them yet. :)
