I'm still using Blender 2.76 as that is the version in my s/w repository. I could install the flatpack and get the latest version, but I'm still learning Blender and have no need for new features yet. It's a moot point to upgrade right now.

Yes. But you can learn where all tools and other stuff ar located. Almost everything is new on Blender 2.8
