OMG, very glad you got it up and running.
I hope Pat also will get it running.

Tried again today and downloaded Samj V3 portable and then followed Diego's configuration instructions also.

Lo and behold ... I now have all the various python/script-fu menus visible and it seems all their contents are available too. Whether they all will work or not, time will tell. Ofnuts add on manager also seems to be working OK, unlike previously.

Tried out Diego's version of Chisel or Carve - works OK.

Tried out BRL but the window is too big for my laptop screen, so will have to follow up on that matter; I'm sure I've seen that same matter raised somewhere here recently.

So thanks Samj for the update and thanks Diego for your configuration advice.

@Rich, when you draw a circle it's easy to rotate the text along path to the point you want it to start.
When you draw an oval or a curve the option text along path chooses it's own starting point.
I've always solved it by using the space bar to let the text start where I wanted. Very often use the Ctrl Z shortcut then.
Is there some more easy way ?

Not easier, This is how I do it, there will be other ways.

For horizontal text I make the text first. Then the path with a little extra length to accommodate any curves.

For an Ellipse, padding with spaces is one way. Otherwise you have to break the path to create a new starting point.

Selection-to-path does not create the most wonderful path, nodes all over the place.

Image

A bit of experienced judgement (or trial-&-error) to select a new starting point.
ctrl-click with the paths tool makes a new node, another for another node, ctrl-shift-click to delete the path between the nodes. This can be very tiny in case you want to stroke the path at a later date.

A bit of adjustment with the character spacing for a (almost) fit. ;)

Especially trial and error then. Like I always do :)
Your last printscreen that's how I do it most of the time, adjustment in spacing or/and use the spacebar in the text.
Thanks for the explanation Rich!

Dinasset, do you use BRL Alpha on Samj's 2.10.4?
If so, did you have to alter it to make it work? I did have the alpha and logo parts of it working in the 2.10 version but only the logo part in 2.10.4. I get a lot of errors and the script shuts down. Any suggestions?

Edit: Today I did not have any trouble with BRL on 2.10. I think I have a ghost in my computer. Today I could not make a brush on 2.10. I used edit copy visable and paste as brush but kept getting error messages which prevented a brush from being made. Did this with making a new pattern also. Could make a new image though. Anyone else have this problem?

I'm having an odd problem with the most recent version of Samj's GIMP portable. Every time it starts, it says that gmic_gimp_gtk.exe can't start because libfftw3f-3.dll is missing. The confusing thing is that the DLL *isn't* missing; it's right there in the directory with the rest of GMIC.

This is more an annoyance than anything else. GMIC seems to be working properly, and GIMP itself is working just fine. I would like to know if there's a way to tell where it's looking so I can either make it stop looking there, or put the file there to get rid of the error message.

I did post the question on Samj's page, but I never received any response.

I'm running Windows 7, 64-bit.

EDIT, 8/14: Sylvie answered my question. Apparently, the wrong version of GMIC was hanging around, and deleting that took care of the error.

I also have Samj's Portable 2.10.4 and BRL is included.
However, the Ofnuts "Text along Path" (also included) does not work.
Can anyone tell me why?

Don't know but tested it on version 2.10 and it works there.
You just have to right click the text layer and then "text along path."

Ella Louise: I'm experimenting with your method and I'm wondering
how you got the text to go over the top of the circle?

Sorry Peter, I don't understand what you mean exactly. Can you explain a bit more?
Has it to do with the rotation of the circle?

@Peter, When you make a circle selection with the ellipse select tool.
Then Edit > to path
Type your text > in the layers window right click on the text layer > text along path.
The text looks like this.

Image

So before I type my text I go to the Path Window > select the path circle and then
with the flip tool (path transform selected) flip the circle path vertical.

Image

Type my text > text along path and this is the outcome.

Image

Make a new layer, in the path window > select the text path and make it active (path to selection.) Fill the active path with the color (gradient) you want and deselect it.
Select the rotate tool in the toolbox, make sure you select the layer transform. And rotate the layer with the words on it to your liking.
This is the result.

Image

Hope I made myself clear :)

Edit: I don't know whether the text always appears as in my first screenshot.
Maybe it's because my Gimp 2.10 wasn't saved in default settings.
But that's the way I solve this issue then.

Many here use an ofnut plugin ofn-text-along-path.py about 4 down here. https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-p ... s/scripts/

There are usage notes in the zip.

That will place text at the top of a circular path. It does limit you to one font / one size per application.

Using standard Gimp tools, in Gimp 2.10 it works as Ella Louise describes

As a video demo https://youtu.be/pukUIefS0xI - a long one for me, 5 minutes There are plenty of these around for Gimp 2.8 but there are differences with 2.10
