I am trying to beef up gimp on a friend's windows computer. I have installed g'mic, but when I open it up in gimp, the additional filters are not there. I went to the ABOUT section of the filter interface and made sure the additional filters are check-marked, but to no avail. I had no problem installing on linux, but I can't seem to figure this one. I went through the g'mic flickr page but could not find a solution there. I downloaded the .exe installer first, and when that didn't work I downloaded the zip file and extracted the archive to the gimp folder.

G'mic opens, it just lacks the additional filters. It's showing 249 available. Mine in linux says 288, but I may have contributed somewhat to that quantity.

Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried refreshing the filter list?(must be online)
And when you select the extra artists filters you need to select apply.

If that doesn't work - go to tools/options/select view all folders that are hidden.
Image
Open notepad ++ or any text editor - Create a new file in this folder
userName\application data - name it .gmic (with the dot in front)
Go to the other thread where i posted all my GMIC FILTERS list (not the presets)
Do not copy the GMIC_Faves area.
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1692&p=22984&hilit=gmic+1.4.9.3#p22998
Copy and paste them in the .gmic file. Save the file - Restart Gimp.Restart GMIC and the filters should be there.

You were not the only one. Unclick all the box and then do OK. Then re-click the box and then do OK and try to refresh. Bet you that will fix you issue. :)

I tried the checking and unchecking when I was attempting to solve the issue yesterday. That was not the problem. I removed and replaced several times, but to no success. I'm at a loss right now. It's working just not adding the additional filters. I'm using the 1.4.9.3 on XP, if that matters. Does G'mic require anything other than what I downloaded, any dependencies, for want of a Windows word? I'm just grasping now, because like I said, it's working, and missing files would prevent that.

Well, asi es la vida, c'est la vie. I'll keep on keeping on.

Thanks

Obviously all the process require a internet connetion and no antivirus, firewall or else blocking curl.exe, that is the component taking care of the filter refresh.

i never had or heard of firewall or antivirus blocking gmic but their work is also block unauthorized access to the net.

just in case you may try to add curl exe to the whitelist of firewall,. antivirus, antyspyware etc-

ps
and in gmic the Internet Update box should be marked, maybe you accidentally uncheched ?
it is next to the Fav button

If the firewall or av program was blocking internet access would I receive an error message? Because I'm not. I'll try adding it though and try that.

Thanks

That is the problem: depend from the antivirus (antyspyware , firewall or what else ) and by the setting used...all allow to have messages but , also because have a lot of baloons popping out to click away may be disturbing, they may be set up to work more or less silently.

anyway all should have a "whitelist", or a "exception" or "trusted programs" list, adding there curl.exe and to be save the other gmic .exe should solve if that was the problem

About gmic, do you get it from Sourceforge ? and you used the zip or the installer ?

It is probably a new problem. Did you try to refresh the filters GMIC today?
Just a few days ago it was OK. (XP 32 bit)

This is it. If you deselect - Add PhotoComiX's filter set - working properly.

aarghh i just renamed the file as asked David, i could rename back except that i can't remember the previous name
And now the file extension is Gmic

But i still have Filezilla open because i was uploading also some patterns, ...maybe till the end of the transfer the files are not accessible ?

I hope David or Mahvin may know what wrong and how to fix,

also now that are several sources on different servers, a problem of connection with 1 source should not influence the other,
but just cause a warning

Still not able to get updates with your square selected PC. :)
I'll try again in an hour or so.

What do you need to rename the file to, PC? We're talking just renaming the file, correct? Not updating the file contents?

PC:

Don't do anything else to the .gmic file, David will submit it soon (he said hours).

Regarding your pattern file? How big is it? Your download time must be based on your connectivity speed. I just uploaded a 5 meg image on the server in just a few seconds, but I am on a T3 connection.
