Knowing absolutely nothing about OSX I tried out Gimp 2.10.6 from gimp.org and determined how easy or difficult installing scripts is for a beginner.

I would say try the gimp.org version first. If I can install Gimp in a Mac then anyone can. As an after note, I'm sticking with linux.

I have been a member here for a long time Rich and consider after all these years experienced and know how to add scripts etc on 2.8 and all that came before that, but not sure if it s going to be the same for 2.10 and in fact f 2.10 will clash with 2.8 if o the same computer...so I have decided to try it n my laptop first...I'm a bit scared to take the leap of faith just yet. Thanks for the links Wallace and the tips rich2005

I did not infer that you needed to know how to install scripts etc. just that the standard Gimp 2.10.6 from www.gimp.org seems to work fine in OSX

I will remove the link to the video to prevent any confusion. Hope it works on your laptop.

I would value your input please

watching the video I can tell you how to quickly get to the folders without using the terminal..
I wrote a tutorial on it years ago and its not much different and it is still here somewhere I think..
You don't need to make it executable in the past.

quick way to add scripts, brushes gradients, patterns, plugins on Mac OS X.
You do not even have to have GIMP open for this method

(New member, long-time lurker.)

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) on which I just installed version 2.10.6 from Partha's site (had been using 2.10.4 from the same site before). Installation was just unzipping the application file and moving it to the Applications folder. The new version uses the same folders for scripts and plugins than the previous (2.10.4) version. (The directories below are the user private directories. There is also the option of installing plug-ins and scripts within the application folder.)

Scripts (Scheme): $USER/Library/Application Support/Gimp/2.10/scripts
Plug-ins (Python): $USER/Library/Application Support/Gimp/2.10/plug-ins

($USER = your user name).

2.10.6 found the previously-installed (under 2.10.4) scripts and plug-ins with no trouble.

I have some of the same questions as Akky. 1) Can you have 2.8 and 2.10 on the same computer without conflicts. 2) Will 2.10 find the same plug ins, scripts, fonts, patterns, etc. that are currently in 2.8?

On the mac, 2.8 and 2.10 keep plug-ins and scripts on different folders. You could duplicate the files or make symbolic links. However, Some scrips/plug-ins are specific to a release.

Different versions of the same release (e.g., 2.10.4 and 2.10.6) use the same folders.
