David just created an arbitrary angle preset for tileable textures based on this tut. Very cool indeed. Check thread below for details. Happy I am. :)

Gimp Chat is seriously bottlenecking.

Tried to post a comment earlier and it timed out.

Anyway, David keeps outdoing himself! If I were in France, I'd buy him lots of beer or cider!

Yeah; noticed that too Mahvin, but things seem alright now. I also agree with you about the beer, wine & cheeze, or whatever is in vogue in France right now. :)

I get this error when I try to refresh G'MIC. I've never had this happen before. I closed and re-opened gimp to see if it would happen again. It did. Also, the gmic dialog screen froze on me.

It's an issue with PCs account (David thought he fixed it but alas it is not). Just temporarily uncheck PC's account, do OK, then refresh, then re-check PCs account and do OK. Crazy sounding I know O, but it works and you'll get all of David's cool enhancements including the new and improved B/W Hardsketch with fast option. :)

Thanks Lyle. I just found the solution in another post and got it fixed.

The filter is working now. I have wanted something like this for such a long time. I recall asking about making a seamless diagonal gradient pattern over in Gimp Talk some time ago (not for gmic) and no one could come up with one.

The really nice thing about this filter is that it doesn't have to be 45 degrees. Way cool David R.

I know (45deg that is). Nice to be able to do other angles. :)

Just be real careful about w x h and the angles you select, I've had it crash on me several times. It certainly doesn't like kaleidoscopes, either.

If you use very small tiles it seems to run fine.David warns about this.
My first tile came out to about 973 mb which gimp told me it wouldn't do :lol

Thanks Lyle. :bigthup

It doesn't seem to like going over 179.50 degrees with even a 100x100 pixel size.
I get the no preview image.Odd though i tried a 75x75 tile and it got the no preview image at 180, and after 184 came back.Is this just a glitch on my machine maybe?

Thought i would post the error it throws when trying to click ok at 181-183 degrees.

Maybe someone can figure it out from that. :)

Probably a bug on my side, thanks for letting me know this weird behavior.
I will look for a patch today.

Also, just a word about arbitrary angles : image tiling is possible *only* when the tangent of the specified rotation angle is a fractional p/q. And if p and q are big (and if they do not share a lot of common factors), the resulting image will be *really* big (approx. p x w, or q x h). So in practice, I limit the possible angles to a finite set where I know that the tangents are fractional, with p and q not too big. It results in a quite poor angular precision in practice (like 5°), and if you actually want to rotate your image with an angle of 181°, then it will apply 180° instead.
And even with that limited set of rotation angles, one can already easily blow up the needed memory :)

I commented about my "accident" using this filter (posted on Flickr). I got caught in a loop, where opening G'MIC would continually lock up on the same filter (tileable rotation). I had to reboot the computer to reset G'MIC because I had no control over the buttons when it opened.

Now I understand why the images grow. Wondered about that.

Why would anyone want to go beyond 90°? If you wanted anything beyond 90, you could simply flip the resulting image. Or it would be nice to have the choice of negative degrees - say -90 through 90, like the rotation tool.
