Displacement

I have read https://docs.gimp.org/2.10/en/gimp-filter-displace.html and the doc gives the 'old' setting options (pre 2.10) I wish to use smear, however I can't uderstand what the 2.10 setting options mean in this Filter, can anyone enlighten me please?

It is the abyss policy setting that governs how edge pixels are handled

So everything else being equal: clamp = smear and loop = wrap

and why they give it that terminology is anyones guess.
