I'm just curious to know if anyone has downloaded a DVD app from the MS app store. Are they worth looking into? Which ones are good to use? I use SMPlayer to watch DVDs.

I try to keep my interactions with the MS and it's Store to a minimum.
I prefer to not the Store at all,
if I can get apps elsewhere.

I use VLC Player,
which can be obtained for the videolan website.
The VLC media player,
is a free and open-source,
portable,
cross-platform media player.
I also us it as my default media player.

That's cool. I use SM Player from https://www.smplayer.info/ but it is not my default player. I also have the Windows Media Player which I don't use. I had asked because everytime I load a dvd into my laptop, I get asked what do you want to do? If I say open it, the option pops about the app store.

You could go to Control Panel > AutoPlay and see what the setting are.
Then change them to what you want to happen,
when you load a DVD.

Note: When in Control Panel.
Change the View to Large Icons and then select AutoPlay to see the settings.

You're welcome.

I believe,
that you need to choose a default application,
that will play DVD's.
Otherwise,
when you put a DVD into the drive the Store will open.

However,
I would check the AutoPlay setting.
To see what's going on and change them if you need to.

I actually do have a default Video player. It's the Movies and TV App but it doesn't come up when I put a dvd in.

The Autoplay settings for when I play a DVD are: Find a new DVD App (App Store), Take no action, Open Folder to view files (File Explorer), and Ask me everytime. I don't have an option for the SM Player. When I load a dvd the box comes up with 2 options. Find a new DVD App (App Store) or Take no action.

Check your AutoPlay setting.
I'll bet you a dollar, Image
that your AutoPlay setting are in the default stare and have not been changed.

Below is a screenshot of the available AutoPlay settings in their Default state.
Plus the setting I use for AutoPlay.
Most likely,
your AutoPlay setting have not been edited/changed and are in the default state.

Wallace,
My settings are default. When I go to Video, the only option for the player is Windows Media Player. The DVD movie option has Find a DVD App. I'm not allowed to change to SM Player in either Video or DVD. I have changed the App to default in the app settings and that did nothing. I even have the drive set to my E drive in SM Player and nothing.

If you want the SM Player to be an option.
You need to set it as the default App used for Video Player.

Here is my default Autoplay settings:

With in DVD movie or the video option, there is no option for SMPlayer. I don't use Windows Media Player.

Did you expand the options window?

Are you talking about a DVD Movie,
or something other then a movie?

Yes, I expanded the options below and it's just a regular DVD movie.

I'm not sure what might be wrong.

One question...
Is the Player you're using a portable app or is it installed?

It's installed. I installed the 64 bit version.. not realizing the site has a portable version listed.
