Right, in Alpha to Logo, you select the font/color before running the script. I actually prefer it over File-Create because the shift option does absolutely nothing that I can tell.

wouldn't the "shift option" move the gradient?
just a guess as I haven't tried using the script from the Alpha to Logo location.

I thought so, too, but I've moved it to its lowest setting and highest setting and it does absolutely nothing I can tell.

There is no shift option in Alpha to Logo, just so you know. I am so wrong here, there is a shift option, just no text option because you preselect the text before running it. <slaps forehead>

Oh, my, am I mixed up. I started with black text this time, used a pale fg color, and it all worked just fine.

I did change the top two layers. I moved the edge layer below the the Reflex#1layer and changed the layer mode on the edge layer to Normal. Then I changed the mod of Reflext#1 layer to Hard light.

Well, I prefer to keep the layers around for that reason, O.

Shift is the displacement amount assigned to the gradient layer, so the larger your text size, the less noticeable it seems to be.

O:

I'm really not trying to confuse you. I am, however, trying to make sense of the foreground color order of this reflex script. My comments might appear disconnected, but I can assure you its me on a learning curve.

This is what I know:

  • Having the foreground color set to a dark color before running Reflex results in a nice shiny image.
  • Setting midtone foreground colors, like medium to light grey, or pink, mauve, or pastel-like colors, you get a matte finish, sort of soft blurred.
  • Having foreground set to any bright colors, most of all, white, will result in an Edge layer with a flat color and no bumped/displaced effect.

This is what I don't know:
How to globally set the foreground color to black before the script starts (since it seems to be crucial to the effect of the Edge layer). I've tried inserting a "gimp-context-set-foreground" procedure between various layer procedures without much success. I even placed it before the actual start of the script and it ran with a blurred (not shiny) appearance.

What I am trying to figure out:

How to create a subroutine that sets foreground/background to default, as if you were just doing it on your own, before the script runs. Just using the procedure alone isn't working.

Oh, mahvin, no problem. I just didn't know that there were two scripts in two locations. Now that I know somewhat of what I am doing with them, they work fine.

I don't have a clue about scripts and how they work. Your work is certainly cut out for you there.

You're welcome, everyone. I hope to resolve the foreground color issue with the reflex-logo script, sometime soon.

bkh1914 has helped fix the foreground color issue and I have since posted the new zip for reflex-logo.scm. No need to worry about pre-selecting colors anymore. Thanks, bkh1914!

Really cool Graechan and Liana. I played with the tiles. A new layer over the results set to Overlay and just about any pattern works well too. Love the flowers on yours Liana.

I particularly like the reflex script but I grabbed them all to add to my already formidable library. I bet the truth is that all of us have the same scripts, if they were all inventoried.

I've never met a script or plug-in or font I didn't download. I can't say I've really ever discovered the true potential of my inventory "because" of its enormous size. LOL
