Color does not exactly match color in GIMP 2.10 (SOLVED)

Sun Oct 06, 2019 3:47 pm

GIMP Version: 2.10.12
Operating System: Linux
OS Version: Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS
GIMP Experience: Intermediate Level

GIMP 2.10.12

I have recently noticed that the colors of an image look much more vibrant in GIMP than they do in any output file (jpg, png). The attached file shows GIMP on the left and a jpg of the same image on the right. Note that the colors in this screenshot are duller than they were when I created this screenshot in GIMP.

Has anyone else noticed this? Any ideas what's going on here? I really need the color in my output files to look like what I see inside of GIMP.

OK, after poking around for a bit I found a reference to GIMP's color management which I eventually found in the Preferences dialog. When I check "Try to use the system monitor profile", the color inside of GIMP becomes the color I see in the raster files. I got a new BenQ monitor recently, so I guess that changed something about the way colors work for me in GIMP.

Hello DebiDalio,
:smiley2

Sounds like you have this issue under control,
which could help others.
Would you consider this issue to be solved?

WARNING: It appears that using the system monitor profile for color management causes a big slowdown in GIMP when zooming in and out. I noticed this effect only after turning that switch on.

That's interesting.
I'm wondering if this is a system specific issue?
Which will behave differently given a computers configuration.

I don't know, but I verified that this color management option is indeed the cause of the zooming slowdown by turning the option off. Zooming is so slow with the option turned on that it becomes extremely painful, so I'm going to keep the option turned off until I really need it on.

You might want to submit a "bug report" concerning this issue,
with your involved GIMP build.

I don't understand most of what they talk about in the comments to this bug report. so I'm going to stick with turning the option on only when I need it. :D

Right.
At least it's a know bug.
Which may or may not be address in subsequent builds.
