As a teenager, I bought myself a beautiful flute and I tried to learn on my own, but my momentum was broken after having comments from my parents, such as going to play in my room and only coming back when I'll match Mozart.

What a shame you stopped learning. I feel that in both art and music, it's not the success that matters but the pleasure it gives you. Focus on the pleasure and the learning will come naturally.

Thank you for your comments. I have a large collection of "VST" digital instruments that I have played with and I think it is soon time to start creating again. I still have my guitar, my flute and my whistles as well as a practice chanter that I can't play yet. If I produce an album, I'm afraid I won't be giving it away as I need a better income than I have, but I will probably give GC members a free sample when it happens. I may even start an art/music/philosophy youtube channel - who knows?

Makes me want to grab the electric guitar(s) I don't have anymore.
But I do have some old gear left, like Tascam 4-tracker that uses c-sassettes , some super odd fuzz stomp boxes and 2 keyboards.
What VSTi do you like?
Was just searching earlier today for free VST instruments to use in small ambient project a friend requested to do. The other keyboard used to be connected to Win PC, to function as midi trigger for software synths but I don't have Windows anymore home.
Audacity is good for home recording and editing.

I remember those days - recording on my fostex four track. I have Audacity and Cakewalk by Bandlab to record with now. The VSTs I like the most are all free and they are anything by Elektrostudio, MinimogueVA and Arrpe by Glen Stegner and there are some awesome open source initiatives now - in particular Surge and ZynAddSubFX which used to only ship with LMMS but is now available as a seperate VST.

If you use Linux, they have some good DAWs that use the Jack server. Have you tried any of those? I believe one is called Rosegarden but I can't remember the others.

You could try LMMS - it's pretty awesome and the Linux version probably runs better than the Windows version. If you have Wine installed, you can open VSTs in VeSTige in LMMS:
