Great job!

Image

If I may
You call it "Grains of Sand", I was searching for "Sand" (it's by alphabetical order in the GEGL list), if a long list... ;) .
Suggestion... may be call it "Sand Salt Sugar" as those effects are similar ;)

Image

Requests:
- is it possible to add the size of the grains? because salt sugar sand do not have the same size of grains
- being able to reduce the "Horizontal spread 2" and the "vertical spread 2" below 100, something like 50 or even below?

I don't think it is possible to make the grains larger unless I use a median blur. But it look like grains then. I will think about changing the name.

With this values this is what I come up in GEGL
First text
gegl:color-overlay value=rgb(0.134,0.123,0.090)
gegl:cubism
gegl:noise-spread amount-x=15 amount-y=15 seed=60
gegl:noise-spread amount-x=30 amount-y=30 seed=60

Duplicated Text
Apply twice
gegl:cubism
gegl:noise-spread amount-x=15 amount-y=15 seed=60
gegl:noise-spread amount-x=180 amount-y=180 seed=60

Change the Layer's mode to Screen on the layer dialog

Thinner... I was thinking the grain thinner, like @Pocholo did above (that grain's size is exactly what I was thinking @Pocholo :bigthup )

The Text contour is too obvious, it need to be more grainy for better effect. Just a thought. :)

I mitigated it with horizontal spread 1 / vertical spread 1, max is 60, though, the spread up to 100 or 150 would be a plus+ ;)

Remember to save the presets for future use.

Nice work in the setting, PixLab. :clap But like you said, somehow the grain still too thick for sand or even salt/sugar..

I found out that lowering the Tile size value will make the grain thinner. Manage to open the sand.c and reduce the Tilesize value range to> 0.8 and Tilesize2 value range to> 1.0. it sure make the different.

So, naturally, I'm curious as to the different colors of sand, because I knew there were many. So I come across this website Sand Atlas and sure enough there are plenty of sand images to pick colors from. Not that we have to be that specific, but at least it will provide relief to many that sand can pretty much be ANY color they want it to be.

Contrast, I'm starting to see where "Writing in the sand" would likely interest a lot of people when using this plugin. So, I'm testing various ways to achieve this using this GEGL plugin using Racer-X's technique.

Cool, it would be nice if the @contrast_ could give us the possibility to lower the the two "Tiles" in the .so at 0.5
