Tim says he no longer has the relevant plugins. Copies Along a Path plugin was downloaded 11 times and the Mura Meister plugin (ver.2) was downloaded 18 times, so I'm praying that someone has them and can reupload them. :help

That is sad news - hopefully someone with those plug-ins will eventually spot your call for help and upload the missing filters.

On a wider note I have restored some custom font character path resources but I noticed that some earlier (than Tim noted) downloads are responding with the error message: 'The selected attachment does not exist anymore.'

Don't know whether this is a temporary situation or whether this is indeed a permanent loss of site resources. Fairly easy for me to restore since they are mostly from me but if this is also the case for the original custom font thread - that would be a huge undertaking (loads more resources by many more people).

Think I need to look a little more....

Edit Update:

Yup just tried to download a couple of files from original custom font thread on GimpLearn uploaded in 2017 and received the same message.

And yet some from page 7 of the same thread have downloaded...

Worrying inconsistency!

Maybe. . . I'll have to play with it to see. This is the one I'm looking for:

Mura_Meister_Copies.scm

Not sure these are the same, but I'll play with them. Copies Along a Path is one that Tim made for me just before he took down Gimp Learn. I was busy with house guests so didn't get to check in there for a few days, and when I did, everything was gone.

This is, I think.

Like for example the Mura Meister Copies.py
Someone requested the functionality a long time ago and I just created it without thinking about the possible copyrighted name Mura Meister.
So I am super paranoid about that right now.

What's what's Mura Items? I don't know what that is.

Sorry Tim, I should have named the four scripts separatly. I wanted to post the four scm files I have in my folder starting with Mura.
Mura Meister Inspired Spiral,
Mura Meister Line Feedback
Mura Meister Perspective Tiling
and the Mura Meister Copies
I thought that they were required.

But this way your work persists - no matter what happens to GC one day.
Honestly: I cannot understand that one takes a lot of time to write scripts or create art and then throws them away just so.

I think I'll calmly make a copy of my updated scripts on Github, but I'm sorry for this because it takes away traffic from GimpChat.

People that just take scripts from GC don't really help GC, they have little "engagement".

Personally I prefer distributing my scripts from a single place (my SourceForge sites), because it avoids the proliferation of obsolete versions (for instance, some of my scripts on GimpScripts were out of date).

The only risk then is SourceForge closing shop, but I reckon that we will have some advance warning. And if I get ran over by a bus, the site will continue to exist (even if in read-only mode for everybody).

Also, I have investigated GitHub/GitLab for distribution and they don't really fit the bill. There are working versions and WIP versions and the average user of Gimp scripts can't tell the difference. On SF I put finalized ZIPs so there is no confusion (this also allows me to set the execute flag on files). Plus SF has very nice download stats.

Thank you for the suggestions, in fact SourceForge is worth considering.

It must be said that I only considered GitHub because I've used it before.

I would use GitHub (or better, GitLab) to maintain the code (but keep that repo private) and find something else for the distribution (been using SourceForge for over 12 yeas now... if only for the nice graphics):

Wow, clearly the pandemic had a positive impact on your downloads :bigthup
About SF, I would be quite reluctant, they have to use to bundle unwanted bloatware with people's binaries (especially with Microsoft's .exe), GIMP got that very problem with SF, it started with the fake big green "Download" button, then they got "bloatwared" that's why they are on the gnome's gitlab nowadays.

Never made the connection. Now that you told me though....

They are done with that, and even then, hiding bloatware in a Python script must have been too difficult or my projects were below their radar because my code was never tampered with. But I admit that I don't know what their current business model is (perhaps because I use addblockers).

I have fears they're probably irrational but they feel rational to me otherwise they wouldn't be fears.

Tim - it's important to talk.

Folk both here and on GimpLearn possess a wide range of skills and knowledge.

Ofnuts provides valuable professional insights and other people are able to offer help(thinking of PixLab here) and identify if worries are indeed actual dangers in terms of copyright issues.

If you feel that you need to delete items from GimpLearn permanently then why not share the concern and give folk the opportunity to help before taking drastic action. If you then still feel that the danger is real then do what you must after that.
