Hmmm, let me check the GMIC commands for a similar option.

Ok, after pounding out the math a little bit, using Polar Transform in Deformations (in GMIC), you can keep the current Custom preset, with a small modifier by doubling the sine of the existing preset.

The radius = r + R/12*cos(a*5)*sin(a*2)
Angle = a
Borders = nearest

Leave x and y at 50.

Until I figure out how to implement the correct code to expand the quadratics, (maybe David can offer this) I can only vary the distortion minimally at this point. Some coding syntax is obvious, but there are differences.

Would be cool to use G'MIC rather then Twist Mahvin. I use to be good at math but alas, now I'm just appreciative of it. lol

One additional note: this is in place of using twist, but you still need to perform all the other steps Lyle has pointed out.

Do i use a special plugin for the offset?
Do i need a white bg in the image?
Which effect do you use for the twist filter?

Sorry Lyle. :)

Layers - Transform - Offset
No.
The 3rd or 4th (probably 3rd)

The trick is you have to run AC twice. Actually, you don't really need to create an AC; you could just fill a circular selection, but like the glossy effect you get from AC. Still, once you have your circle, you need to offset that before running AC again (the second AC is required). :)

Ahh..from here came the idea to propose a port of twist as GMIC filter !

I believe mathmap may do polar transform (even inverse )

About twist ,it offers the "best" example of puzzling and unintelligible user interface i saw till now
And the author note on the plugin ( http://www.graphics-muse.org/source/GFX ... t_doc.html ) is of not of any help

i do believe that to decipher that GUI no knowledge in math or geometry would suffice, would be required also a highly professional training in the field of enigmatography

Here the Twist Graphic Interface ,

Image

if instead then in English it was in ancient Sumerian cuneiform ideograms would be no easier to decipher

Like that Pauline.

Hey PC; as for twist, the more you play with the sliders, the better feel you'll get for what's going on. Never tried to figure out what math they were trying to apply though. lol

It would be nicer if the preview is what you would end up with :lol
Not the case here.

Thanks Lyle and Mahvin.

Rod, are you cropping your circle? It's the only reason I would suspect your preview is different, at this point.

Also, to clarify: Twist doesn't require math knowledge, just play with the sliders. Polar transform in GMIC does, otherwise you're stuck with the default preset.

It's too bad you aren't allowed to save presets with this plugin. :)

I upgraded Darla's Amazing Circles script, now found in Script-Fu/Darla/Amazing Circles. She registered her script with a different procedure so it doesn't clash with the older script in FX Foundry.

The newer script allows you to control whirl and pinch, add drop shadows, etc.
