Looking inside the script, because there are no user settings, and it keeps leaving all the red artifacts behind. Otherwise, a nice script.

I believe it was originally made for a whiteboard. If anything it should help speed up the process a bit.

I removed despeckle from the script and NOW I get the results I wanted. I actually read his blog where he mentions removing despeckle, so I opted to try that first, and BINGO!

Sure..I just disabled despeckle. Users can opt to turn it back on by removing the ; in front of it.

Here is the method I use - it is manual because of the first step:

1) Duplicate the layer and perform a Dilate filter, until the scan noise is all gone.
2) Gaussian Blur this duplicated layer with a large radius.
3) Effectively you want to subtract this duplicated layer from the original, do this by setting the layer Mode to Grain Extract, then Flatten.
4) The result will have an even grey background, adjust the Levels to make it white again.

Why couldn't that be done in a script? Because the number of dilation processes most likely will exceed one run.
