Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!!! :jumpclap

I have GOT to get me one of these!

My project right now is making photo art of our students and extracting the hair is such a nightmare! I tried the masking and the high pass but they don't really work that well. I usually end up putting a hat or a crown on them to cover up the badly extracted hair.

When? When? I do hope it's soon!

Thank you, Partha!

Thanks, Rod!

Since my OS is Windows 7 64 bit, I download the 64, right? I know this sounds like a stupid question, but non-techie here and I don't want to break my GIMP again.

I don't even know what 'portable GIMP' is but will check it out.

Thanks, again!

Yes download the 64 bit and just unload it into a separate folder on your desktop.
It is portable so it will not interfere with any system files. It shouldn't anyways. :)
Then just open the folder until you see a wilbur executable for Gimp Portable launch.
Double click it to launch Gimp.

Portable is software you can download and place onto a flash drive to make it portable to any other machine.
If you download the 64 bit portable keep in mind it will not work on a 32 bit machine.

When I open it, there are none of the scripts or brushes I had.

Do I just upload those into the portable? Or do you just use it to render certain things and open those images with the desktop to continue?

I am assuming that the portable is totally separate from the desktop version (something like my Roboform2Go).

And to make it portable, I just save the file to my flash drive, yes?

(Sorry for all these silly questions)

I'd suggest changing the folder setting preferences and add the folder where your existing resources are.

Yes that is what you should do set the edit/pref/folders - plugins, scripts, brushes and whatnot to those user/.gimp-2.7/ folders.
This nor as far as i know any gimp portable does not have a gimp2 directory that it auto directs to.You have to create it via edit/pref/folders
Do you know how to set up a path to those folders that way?

I'm not at home so I can't check but if I remember correctly, I open the Preference thru the Edit tab and make a new folder and designate my brushes & scripts to the new folder?

I'll check when I get home.

You are welcome. The others have already told you how to use it, but if you have issues, feel free to leave me feedback at the website or here.

Let us know your experience with it.

Thanks,
Partha

Edit: One thing I forgot to mention, as Rob said install in a separate directory and in the sub directory called Gimp-2.7.4, you will find an executable called gimprun.exe. That's all you need. Launch and you are all set.
