Hi guys is there a script or plugin that I can use for circled or spiral lettering. If not is there a way I can arch or circled lettering. I'm doing a project on card making and I would like that type of lettering on my birthday cards etc....

Thanks Lorri

Maybe this thread (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1442) can help. :)

You can do circle text with the File/Create/Logo text to circle script.
Filters/Distort/Curve Bend
There is also another filter you can get for Gimp - Curve bend between paths
http://registry.gimp.org/files/curve-be ... -paths.scm.
There is also a Twist plugin available.
Or this handy dandy tool - font to brush
http://registry.gimp.org/files/font-to-brushesW.py

I'm not sure if this is what you want.
Open a blank image
Type your text at the very top, any font.
Merge down.
Go to Filters, Distorts, Polar Coordinates.
In the dialog un-check 'Map from the top'
Move the 'Offset angle' to your preference.

The best tool for this is inkscape but using Gimp

There is a built in script: File -> Create -> Logos -> Text Circle.
but not very flexible

or

Gfig to create a spiral.
select the spiral
selection to path
make your text
then text to path
its still a bit haphazard as to where the text ends up so there will be a bit more work involved.

an example http://i.imgur.com/ysxRD.jpg

or the basics

Apparently this is incomprehensible to most people but my video on applying text to a path - covers the fundementals.

This is curve bend set to these parameters on a 100 size font (Arial)
Remember to do both lower and upper curve lines. :)

Mixmax version - very cool way to do the wrap also. :)
Same font same size - using Filters/Distort/polar coordinates

You can also use iwarp with a huge radius setting and just push the text up from the center. :)

There are many ways to warp text.
I also forgot to mention Saulgoodes warp text script. That works rather nicely also. But it is rather used for enveloping text to a 4 point box.

File/Create/Logo/Text To Circle with these settings creates an arch. :)

Keep in mind all the ones i showed you are from Gimps normal install (no outside scripts needed)

About a year ago I was designing a CD lable and needed to figure out how to do this and I found this video that explains the text to path pretty well. You might find it helpful as I did.

I like Rod's examples too. Thanks for the insight Rod. I'll have to try some of those. Lots of ways to skin this cat.
