Definitely some cool stuff here PC. Dabbled in some of these types over the years but never really mastered them. A cool program to create some of them like that of Obama is my pingotec. :)

The basics of a text image is very easy to achieve with Gimp.

Check my Youtube tutorial on this subject.

A lot of those look like they were done in Xara or Adobe software.
It would be cool to duplicate some of these in Gimp. :)

Thanks PC, nice collection.

Yes it is a text inlay 2-ton.
The text follows the contours of the area it is over.
Overlay mode usually works well for this.

It works similar to the effect i gave this image.Except i used a pattern instead of text.

Image

Open your image
Create a new text layer with your cool text wording.
Select the image layer (bg)
Select the entire area you want to cover with text.
Switch to the text layer and edit/cut
Make the text layer you cut a new layer
Edit/Paste - the text cutout should then be set to overlay mode.
Then you will only need the two layers the original image and the text layer cutout layer.

Still one of my favorite programs for creating these is ASCIIgen. It's also Open Source (wasn't originally and originally didn't depend on .NET, but it does now). :)
