I've been hearing a lot of negative comments relative to the new Kindle Fire saying it's Buggy, and what not. My brother got it, and asked me to root it with Android 4.0 in which I did, and kit runs very nicely on the Kindle Fire. He still uses it as an e-book reader, but he also uses it as a portable computer as well. (This is what I recommend) Hasn't lagged once yet. (He let me root it yesterday, and he won't be back here till tomorrow, which means I have a whole day to screw around with the new Android Ice Cream Sandwich)

I got the Kindle Fire for my wife and will be giving it to her for Christmas. I've rooted my phone and I love it now. I may end up rooting the Kindle if she has problems with it.

I was looking at the Kindle Fire but live in Canada so it is useless. (They aren't selling them here and the Amazon store is geolocked anyway so no good content in Canada if I pick one up in the US and bring it over the border).

@Alonte - are you looking for a tablet, or an e-ink reader?

Personally, I love my old sony e-reader, and I also have a Kobo (which is from Chapters/Indigo - a Canadian bookstore chain)

I also highly recommend you get calibre to manage your library - check out their device forum to get a feel for which ones work well and which are locked down....
