Thought I would do a Chihuly inspired glass scupture. Though I used Flame Painter to create the segment, I did use a copy/rotate Script-fu, and G'MIC's B/W Sketch and Rodilius all blended in a synergistic way to create the glass flower result. I chose PNG and transparent background so folk here can choose what background they want to place this one on since I give it as a humble gift to those who choose to click (i.e., consider it open source). :)

Beautiful! It's like a stained glass window.

Thank's O; figure I should, at least, share the individual segment which got rotated 30 times. Also did a dup horizontal flip and some more tricks too for the actual rendering. :)

Thought I would share too a whirl/pinch variation and only 15 rotations; same pattern segment. :)

I like the second one.
It has a strong 3-D feel - translucent with multiple layers of complexity - like a real piece of glass art.

Create the base flower, dup, map opject (plane) and rotate along y-axis, cut result in half and paste, move half of cut below base flower keeping the other above. Repeat process how many times you feel like doing so. :)

Thanks Tux; noticed that I did indeed clip my rotated sphere one though. Oh well; never said I was perfect.

Sorry folks; still more of my binge madness. lol

Had to use Ubuntu One to host this file since it's over 5MBytes (which exceeds the Shack's limits). :)

OK; this is the closest that I can figure out to rotate a segment around the z-axis. Still not quite right and cheated for the back side. XY circular rotation apparently easy since I have 2 ways to do this (thanks to smarter folk then me). To rotate around and arbitrary Z-axis point is a lot of work. Anyway, showing this result to explain what I'm trying to do; maybe a guru here has a cool way or maybe someone here knows of a rotating lathing plugin or script-fu that can do this (G'MIC's lathing function is not quite what I'm looking for I don't believe). :)

Felt no need to start a new thread. Still created a single target with Flame Painter again and used the copy/rotate Script-fu, but then, with my new understanding of Mathmap's Droste, I created the spiral result and then used Mathmap>distort>sphere for the Chihuly inspired Sphere. Now I did use Eyecandy 3's glass with selective masking to get the bumpy glaze effect. :)

Warning; the image is over 7MBytes large if you click. :)
