Lava Text Script V1.3 allows you to easily create text and logos using variations of the lava effect. Lot’s of interesting text effects can be achieved by varying font, text-color, shadow-color, BG-color and the gradient. You can choose between static or animated text and logos.

Electricity Effect

Stained Glass Effect

The four layers created are background, text, lava text and shadow.

Installation
Download and copy the script to your Gimp /scripts folder, then refresh.

The scripts will be located under File/Create/Logos (gimpchat.com)

Those look great!! :hi5

I'm getting ready to update all of my scripts for better access in Gimp 2.6.x. I'll be moving them to a menu of their own under File/Create/Logos. They really shouldn't show up under script-fu in Gimp 2.6.x.

I'll also be changing many of the default values for a better demo of the scripts capabilities. :bigthup

If you could put them (leave them?) under <image>/Script-Fu/Logos that would save me a bunch of editing. ;)

I find it easiest to put all my added scripts in one place in the menu. That way you can keep the scripts that came with GIMP seperate from the ones you added later. Very handy if you make tutorials for people who are relatively new to GIMP. Then you know what scripts to avoid or that you need to tell them to download it from somewhere. (Just my opinion.)

That said, I'll try this script later. I especially love Molly's result. :)

Yes, that is what I'm planning.

I haven't updated these since 2.4.x so they were being placed under Script-fu. Logo scripts aren't added there anymore in 2.6.x. They are located under File/Create/Logos/ (and under filters for alpha to logo) . I will be placing mine is a separate folder File/Create/Logos (gimpchat)/, keeping things consistent for logos but not mixing them with the built-in scripts. Currently, I don't support 'alpha to logo' but I may add that in at some point.

I can't wait to start playing with your video tuts. Gotta find some time. I'll bet I get some cool scripting ideas from your videos. :pengy

OK, what have I done wrong. I put the .scm file into scripts, made some text and finally found the filter under the xtns on the gimp tools menu...and everytime I try to run it, it returns the words gimp in a new window. How can I get it to run on my own text in my workspace?

Try looking in File > Create > Logos (gimpchat.com)

What very likely happened is that you had the script before and the new one over-wrote the old.
