Hi there,
I've not been very active on the GC forums despite I promised to participate more in my 'Introduce yourself' message, but well... I have been quite busy with the x-mas day, and I've tried to optimize my time by improving the G'MIC framework instead, when I had some free time.
And today is St David's day, and I couldn't resist to release a new version of the G'MIC plug-in (numbered 1.5.0.8) :yes

Here is the plug-in page : http://gmic.sourceforge.net/gimp.shtml

Here is the Changelog : http://www.flickr.com/groups/gmic/discu ... 192798905/

There is nothing really outstanding in this version, from a user point-of-view, but believe me, I've done a lot of work on the internal parser core, making it more optimized than before. I'm not sure the improvement can be really seen in regular uses of the plug-in, but the benchmarks I've done show an improvement of about 20-30% of speed for the parsing task. This doesn't mean all the filters will run 20% faster, just that the parsing of the filter source code is faster than ever, but generally this is far from being the heaviest part of the processing.
Maybe you will see the improvement for filters that use loops heavily (e.g. circlism ?).
Apart from that, there are some new filters, new command shortcuts, and some bug corrections.

Feel free to update. I won't propose new filters for the 1.5.0.7 version anymore.

And of course, happy new year to everyone !

Thanks for the update David. G'MIC continues to get better and better. Pretty much I literally use it in every edit that I do now. :)

Thank David installing now

maybe also ellipsionism now will be faster ?
i experimented a interesting process (viewtopic.php?f=23&t=3389 ) but if works well manually it is too intensive for a filter (the sliders get stuck or jumpy if the preview is switched on even on not too big images)

Best wishes on the occasion of St David's day.

Wish lists:
Maybe you will see the improvement for the filters that use Heavily loops (eg circlism?)

Is it possible to add (in future) the approximate time rendering options for the selected options (for the averaged parameters of the computer - but taking into account the size of the image)?

Hey David thanks for the new release! :)
Have you given any thought yet to a Box Fitting filter?

Happy holidays to you and yours also.

I think so too PC! :)

This is a 300x300 image that took 1 minute to render using the filter Circlism.
It seems to be a bit faster David. :bigthup

You have to download the newest version from the link David provided above. :)
Then just install into your plug-ins folder.

I think you simply run an update. You don't need to add filters manually. But PC is a filter developer. He could probably tell you more.

To add new filters either click refresh on the GMIC dialog, or go to About>Additional Filters.
Tick the boxes next to each name, and click apply. Then click refresh and the filter definition list will be downloaded to your application data folder. Hitting the refresh button every time you open GMIC usually is enough. :)

You may be advised if a newer version of gimp is available, just entering in gmic About/Release

Image

if a newer version the last line would be red advicing of a newer version
