My style is anime/manga, I have been trying to get out of that style into some more realistic or I should say expand my style into a different one. =)

You do nice work in the style. What stands out to me in the anime style is the large eyes and the childlike qualities of the subjects.

What kind of new direction are you considering?

I am more looking forward to realism, I really haven't got it down, but I am practicing. I am hoping to find different techniques of various shading and texture (which I am hoping to find here on this site)

Search this site for work and tutorials by Griatch. He's very good with light, shadow and shading.

I think before focusing too much on whether your style should be eastern or western, I'd suggest tightening up your anatomical understanding and then go from there. All eastern art has a basis first in realistic anatomy and then is stylized from there. :)
