Working on an idea here, I wanna make a series of "Metallica paints" for either a palette or a series of patterns. If you have any ideas or have any of your own post them here as well as how you made them. Trying to create this resource.

ADMIN: If this is in the wrong section please move it thanks L:D

Do you mean like for use with a brush? There are already several metallic type gradients and patterns available so I'm not sure what you mean by 'paints'.

No more like a color but have it be metallic in nature, with flecks and things like that. Look at a car with metallic paint, that type of paint.

That would be cool if you can pull it off. like mixing some sparkles in with your paint.

Molly that's exactly it! I could not get the words across. However the funny thing is I wanna make it almost dependent on certain conditions, like a smart fill. But to start out simple, make a paint that has the flecks in it like a real metallic paint would.

I am sure lots of suggestions will pour in and it would be fantastic if you can make it happen. I can just see painting a car, or a motorcycle or a bike with the metallic look. COOL

It would help if gimp could somehow use images in palettes? Possible?

You can just make a color pat file and add noise. :)

I looked at a few samples of glitter images on the web and tried to simulate the effect using several layers of correlated RGB Noise. with varying opacity. I'm not sure how close I came to what you were looking for, so you be the judge. If they work for you I'll post the process and you can make whatever color you want.

These are just samples of what I made. I saved the original larger sizes and the xcf file just in case. They can be also be made into tileable patterns or brushes. I'm still working on a reliable way to get a few sparkles in there to make it look a little better.

I think adding the noise in a separate layer and blurring it a little will make it look better. :)
Or even trying screen mode or another layer mode.

:ninja

I used about 5 different sparkle brushes to make a new layer and added it to the image.

I gave it a go also. :)

You can just grab this and use colors>colorize if you want to change the color patterns.

I will see if i can whip something together in Filter Forge.

They are all good so far... I think these of Drac's are the closest to the Metallic paints I have seen. good work guys

Maybe I need glasses but all I see is a solid color Rod.

(Thank you Molly. We'll see if that's what he's looking for.)

I agree molly. Here is an idea. Would it be possible to make a script that makes the same metallic feel (of somewhere between drac and rod) with whatever the primary color being whatever the fg color is? Although the truth is that neither of them, are truly a metallic paint, though they give that impression in the digital world L:D I am looking online now for a way of making metallic paint for my car. When I find that way I will see if I can create a digital version of that. Metallic paint almost seems like a mother of Pearl look with a color overlay you know?
