It has got to be looking good, although I remember the time between 2.2 & 2.4 and 2.4 to 2.6 and all the waiting.

This came up a week ago in a buried-away section of the PClinuxOS forum and is a procedure for compiling Gimp on PCLOS. Its a long url from wordpress so I tinyurled it.

http://tinyurl.com/7y6lx87

Worth a look just to see the effort these guys make to produce packages for ordinary users. It has just been updated with some screenshots of the Gimp 2.8 RC1 splash screen.

Although this for compiling Gimp, each one of the packages and there are dozens, needed for Gimp goes through a similar process. The site is a bit slow so don't overload it.

I have Gimp 2.7.5 running, still thinking about 2.8, but the whole process still amazes me, hats off to all the clever guys.

Looks like a May release is planned so far. :)
I was guessing June or July myself.

That one changes dates back and forth.
Why I don't know.
I check it almost daily.
Couple of days ago it had a date in April.
Gerard.

Gerard.

It's not very accurate. The changes are based on a 8 hrs/day workload. So, everyday the workload does not change adds a day to the chart. See? :)

Well, now it looks like if a given tablet works, it will already be working. All the work will be done to get it all fixed in gtk+3.0 which is where gimp is moving. So, I am afraid, 2.8 is not it.

My wacom tablet works fine on the latest 2.7 release... pressure sensitivity and all. I thought the tablet support was pretty much fixed already?

What I want to know is, will the weird chunky effect be fixed in 2.8... it's kind of annoying.

That weird chunky effect is not present in Parthas portable gimp-2.7.6 version dd. :)
And it's much faster than the dev release for some reason. No idea why.
