I'm missing a lot of my downloaded and created patterns. I have no idea where they are. For some reason now I have to gimp folders one is gimp 2.4 and gimp 2.6. The pattern folder in 2.4 is empty.. and the 2.6 folder has some patterns but not all of them. Can someone please help me...

Did you check in your USER directory?
ie... C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAMEFOLDER\.gimp-2.4\patterns

I did Rod, but there is nothing in 2.4 folder. In my 2.6 folder I have some patterns but not all of the ones I had to begin with. I haven't deleted anything.

Did you look in C:\Documents and Settings\Program files\GIMP-2.4\patterns

I don't remember the exact path now that I as using Linux but in Windows instead of your .gimp user files, try looking in your Program files for your patterns

I think he already looked there in Program Files but maybe not in C:\Documents and Settings\Program files\GIMP-2.6\patterns

There are only 2 reason for patterns to vanish

1 there were placed in the wrong place , in a gimp subfolder in program files and than gimp was updated
In that case no way to recover them AFIK

2 for some reason the path set in Preference went broken
if so is simple as restore the path from Edit/Preferences/Folder/ pattern

I wonder if they will show up if he goes to Start > Search. If they are in the computer, shouldn't they come up by doing that? Would be worth a try.

if he remember the name of some patterns that may work

Did you try to load gimp and enter in Edit/preferences/folder, expand "Folder"(clicking on the tiny triangle before folder ?
If what above didn't solve do it and post a screenshot of what in there

But again if your patterns were in the gimp folder in Program Files and you updated gimp there is not much to do
