Something I came up with while playing around.

Which filters did you use?

For the above image I used two different G'mic filters on two separate layers made from the original photo. The filters were Artistic/ColorAbstractionPainting and Artistic/Cubism. I set the Mode: to Overlay on both and then adjusted the settings.

Here's another one.

Erisian,
I just double-checked and noticed that I had set the Mode: to Multiply on the Cubism layer with an opacity of 45.5%.

You should PM David about these effects you make.He will possibly add them as separate filters. :)
If it's made in GMIC a filter is possible.

They look real nice.

Here's one using a mix of three filters; Cubism, ColorAbstractionPainting, and Pastell Art. Each were applied on separate layers. I set the Layer Mode to Overlay for the Cubism and ColorAbtractionPainting at 100% Opacity, and the Pastell Art layer was set to Normal at 63.6% Opacity. I moved the three filter layers around (i.e., above and below the others) to see which mix looked best.

Rod,
I'd PM David, but I don't know who he is or what his screenname is.

Ronounours,
Thanks for the compliment, but I'm hardly an expert. In fact, I'm a newbie! I've only been using Gimp and G'mic for a couple of weeks.

David is Ronounours :hehe (and vice versa)

About making filters i may show you a simple trick

1) change Gmic output to "new layer" (NOT new active layer)
2) run the sequence you wish become a filter
3) copy the layer names

now if your filter is sequential (successive Gmic filters applied to the same layer) and don't require tuning, is ready, i mean that code is ready to run as "custom code", then you may fav it so remain available without need to be paste each time

Example if the layer name is

{GB- drama}{Graphic_Boost}{gimp_boost1}{gimp_boost1}{1.9802}{1.36364}{0.727273}{16.8317}{1}{0.254545}{0.842178}{5.36364}{0}{2}{0.963636}{0}{0.536364}{0.818182}{1.54545}

the "custom code" is -graphic_boost 1.9802 , 1.36364, 0.727273 ...and so on ( Filter name + what inside "{}" separated by comma).

Wellthis is the most simple case but should give a idea, ...and also allow to recover setting used
(again if you applied gmic with "new layers" output option...if not you should use a terminal to recover the values)

Nothing much done to this, other than slightly enhanced color and splitting the image into four using one of the G'mic filters. It's an image of an old truck that I shot using a long exposure and "outlined" with an exposed flashlight.

Erisian & Photocomix,
Thanks, I'm just having fun shooting and editing images of things I see and come in contact with.

Here's a goofy one of an unplugged, but still lit, light bulb. I added grain and contrast using Tom Keil's Photoillustration G'mic filter.

Pastell Art and ColorAbstractionPainting applied in an attempt to make this little, bloated, critter (deer tick) appear less disgusting!
